I have no idea why I never even bothered to look at an i5...Ya that to, you will need a 370 or similar.
lol just keep an eye on the mobo section. or even the combo's

A sweet spot i5 8600k with an asus z370F strix. Easy
Unless you want to stick with more threads on an i7 for work purposes
Will I be able to push a bit more without fiddling with voltages?Yeah that temps look far more decent indeed, best cpu intense game I've come across is bf1 and nfs payback, that will chow 8 threads chop chop, but if prime95 can only get 75 out of it, no game will.

Maybe 4.7 ish? Going to fiddle more tonight and do some reading on voltages.
I have actually been doing some research lately on Ryzen and possibly going to change over. Their specs are pretty impressiveUnless you go with another sweet spot in the form of Ryzen. You'd get more for your 6K.
I've been such an intel guy though... Every PC and Mac I have ever owned has been powered by Intel... Changing over is a big step for me.I have actually been doing some research lately on Ryzen and possibly going to change over. Their specs are pretty impressive

Would've been nice to see a comparison, if you had a 4790k.I’ve just upgraded from a 4670k system which I’ve sold for just under 4k. With the help of some carb specials, I managed to put together a quite impressive R5 2600 system for just over 5k.

None of the benches and fps graphs show that an upgrade from a 4790k at 1440p is worthwhile at the moment. WORST case is 20%, average is around 10% improvement in fps...:/
Definitely worth having newer generation hardware and tech, just not worth it for me at the moment. Was strongly considering the i5, and I have an offer out or two, but with the oC I am over 120hz on everything I play so I won't gain much either way...Sure, a 10% improvement doesn’t look that good. I did it more for “future proofing”. I mean 4th gen is getting long in the tooth now, it sure does still pack a punch when overclocked.

So I bought some new fans! Hopefully she will be more quiet now. Still unable to source the splitters locally in Pretoria.
We drive the same car, I like you now. You should oc the car as well
ST, sony radio gives it awayIs that a ecoboost fezz? I drive one too [emoji16]

Full stage 2 already! Traction is enough of a problem as is.We drive the same car, I like you now. You should oc the car as well
Exact same 1? I thought those were only in the ST'sI have the Sony HU too.

I installed those 6 fans last night. 2 on the front radiator, 2 on the CPU radiator and 2 on top as intakes.
The case is running somewhat quieter, but my temps have all dropped by around 10degrees under load. The GPU does not go over 40degrees no matter what I throw at it.
I have since tested some games and the improvements are very noticeable. Frames are much more stable and 10-20% better in some unoptimised titles.
All in all very happy. Thanks for everyone who contributed in this thread.
Will definitely go fiddle with the fan curves a bit.Awesome!
Now you can OC that GPU a little! Woot Woot!
Don't forget to change the FAN curves a little.
The aim is to get the fans to be as quiet as possible at different temps while still cooling optimally.
PUMPs - 90% constant. (depends how loud your pumps are though. I would make them change speed if they are to loud on idle)
You didn't find a FAN splitter cable did you?
Keep you're VRM's cool, a simple bit of constant airflow will help quite a bit. Not only do they emit a f-load of head (~120 degrees on the upper end) but they're instrumental in a good OC. The OC guru's seem to choose a mobo largely based on VRM's.Will I be able to push a bit more without fiddling with voltages?

VRM's have a passive fan blowing at full speed on them.Keep you're VRM's cool, a simple bit of constant airflow will help quite a bit. Also check you're cooling on the backside of the CPU. I had an old CM case and it has space for a 80mm fan behind the CPU. Miss that
Which Msi Z97 do you have? Gaming 3,5,7,9?VRM's have a passive fan blowing at full speed on them.
Will check on the back plate, one fan from the top is blowing directly onto it, but will verify.
