Keep you're VRM's cool, a simple bit of constant airflow will help quite a bit. Not only do they emit a f-load of head (~120 degrees on the upper end) but they're instrumental in a good OC. The OC guru's seem to choose a mobo largely based on VRM's.
Also check you're cooling on the backside of the CPU. I had an old CM case and it has space for a 80mm fan behind the CPU. Miss that
They run at a high temperature, they don't put out that much heat
Regarding the rest, continued below:
Which Msi Z97 do you have? Gaming 3,5,7,9?
What I ment re the back of the CPU, is literally the other side of the CPU IE: the big silver brace. Blow a fan directly at that to if you can.
But why? That's going to do very, very little for the CPU temperature if anything.
- The CPU is on a pocket of air in the CPU socket
- The backplate is hollow, and therefore also contains a pocket of air
- The side panel will be almost flush with the fan, meaning airflow will be mega restricted and noise increased
Overall, it makes very little sense /shrug
