Hi all,

Not really a "modded" rig, but just wanted to share with you my new rig I'm busy setting up for the girlfriend and myself.

Firstly some info about me and my PCs:

I've always been into computers (got my first PC in 1997, Intel Pentium 120mhz BEAST - lol), but my first "gaming rig" I got in 2005 when I started studying, was a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Winchester Core - Overclocked very nicely), 9800 Atlantis (replaced with Asus 9800XT - 1st ever 2nd hand purchase made off Prophecy forums back in the day), had a Chenbro Gaming Bomb Chassis and 19" CRT.

I finished studying and started working, imported a couple of items, DFI LanParty UT CFX3200DR, Corsair XMS Platinum DDR400, Thermaltake Armor, X1900XTX, Logitech G15, Logitech MX518, this rig was on the top 10 3D Mark scores in SA (on SystemShock.co.za) for a while as I managed to clock the CPU to 2.6GHz from the stock 2.2GHz and the GFX was also overclocked quite a bit.

This rig started giving endless issues and so I sold off some of the parts, bought a new Mobo and AMD Athlon 64 FX-60, 2600XT Crossfire, Antec P180 with a custom modified perspex side window which I then sold a couple of years later.

I then bought a new setup, Phenom II X4 945 (I think) Black edition, new mobo, Corsair Doms, 4850 Vapor-X and CM690 pure with nice UV lighting and UV fans - this was the last rig I owned before the recent rigs I've got, as I gave up PC gaming (Was an Xbox ***** for quite some time), and proceeded with upgrading my car as I was quite into motor racing, the car is also now sold and I've got a 2006 Suzuki SV1000S to cure the Need for Speed. :p

Soooo... long story short, I grew tired of FPS console gaming, and decided to buy the M14X in end Nov' 2011, been hooked on PC gaming again since, especially Battlefield 3. :)

So now with all the gaming going on, my girlfriend said she also wanted to start playing games as her Dell Inspiron 1545 can't really play anything, I decided to buy/build a gaming rig that I can use to play some of the games that struggle on my Laptop a little at better frame rates, as well as giving my girlfriend a chance to experience gaming as well (Basically just a big excuse to buy another gaming rig for myself. :p )

In total we have 5 computers at home now. Lol. My work i5 laptop, a HP DC7100 with HD4350 card and 1.5TB drive connected to the network and TV for media, My GF's Pink Insperon 1545, my Alienware M14X and now this PC as well, once a PC nut, always a PC nut I suppose. :D

Anyhow, I finally assembled all components I have so far last night and snapped some pics:

The specs of our gaming rig:

Intel Core i7 930 with Spire TherMax Eclipse cooler (This thing is MASSIVE - Hope it works well)
Asus Rampage II Gene motherboard
12 GB Corsair Vengence DDR3 1600
Sapphire Radeon 7850 O.C. (Still waiting for stock - but paid for all ready)
500GB SATA 7200rpm
1TB SATA 7200rpm
CM 690 II Advanced Chassis
Razer Lycosa Keyboard
Razer Imperator 4G Mouse
LG E2430 23" LED Monitor
Also running 2 x Stock CoolerMaster 140mm fans (1x Blue LED [front], 1x Black [Top exhaust]), 3 x Sickleflow 120mm Blue (Exhaust, CPU, Side panel).

Anyhow, here's some pics attached... :)

Nice looks, that's pretty average size for a good air cooler though.

Thanks man. Last cooler I had was the CNPS9900, so in comparison it's pretty big, but I see most guys are running big (120mm fanned) coolers these days, like I said, I've been out the game for a while. :p

Cheers.

Update:

Just collected my Razer Lycosa, Razer Imperator, Goliathus pad & 12GB Vengence memory from the supplier. :D

Looks damn schweet, don't know if I'll have time to set it up tonight, got the Fleshgod Apocalypse concert tonight (HELLZ YEAH!! xD).

Will update as I get time.

Ciao

Have you proposed yet????

Hahaha.. not yet, tho we've been living together for around 2 years and have been dating for almost 4 years.

Just want to complete my rig, then it's time to buy the one ring that rules them all.. :p

Update time:

RUSHED home yesterday after work so that I could put the memory in and start using the keyboard and mouse, load Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and still be in time for the Damnation Tour (OMG it was epic - If you like HEAVY metal :p ).

Anywho, running the system with my media PC's little HD4350 for now till the 7850 arrives. :)

Some pics:

P.S. Sorry about the quality, taken with phone and some of the pics are very blurry for some reason. :(

Lol Sarinaide.. fanx.. I think. :p

@SilvRav, guess your right, I was shaking like a leaf all of yesterday, Wednesday night was hectic.. only got home at 4am.

Hopefully my 7850 arrives today... :D

Look at getting yourself a small (60gb or so) SATA 2 SSd, single biggest improvement you can make on a PC IMO.

That case for its price has so much untapped potential, love the extra fan for the hard drive cage, I miss mine already.

I had the CM690 Pure before this a few years back and I loved that case.. this one is like 10 times better still. And as you said, at the price, I don't think there are many cases crammed with so much features. :)

Update:

Supplier's said the GPU is now only coming tomorrow.. *sigh*

And seems CUD is back in full swing..

I just ordered a Corsair H100 kit, NZXT sleeved cables for all the ugly cables sticking out at the moment and a nice little Logitech Z323 2.1 system as I'm running a labtech junk 2.1 system I got for free from a friend a while back.

Eish, now I'm really done buying PC parts for the month. o_O ... Or atleast... so I hope...

Just picked up my parts from the supplier.

Woo-Hoo!! Tonight I finish my build!! :D

Update:

So as stated earlier, my 7850 finally arrived, as well as all my other stuff, so I was quite amped to get home and build. :)

Took some time to assemble, as I had to take out the entire motherboard again as the Spire's back plate just-just didn't want to clear the hole in the motherboard rack.

Anyhow, assembled everything and got the PC up and running, BF3 feels and looks like a new game on this monitor compared to on the M14X

Attached are some pics.

Quite chuffed with my cable management, not too shabby for someone who has been out of the game for a good couple of years, don't you fink?!?! :) :p

Hey all,

Just ran 3D Mark Vantage (Unfortunately only bench I've got - been out of the game for some time :( )...

Don't know if this means anything to anyone, but this is run on stock CPU and GPU frequencies:

Righto...

Picked up my package at the postoffice today!! :D Thanks again ShockG.

Massive 7970 Winforce. :)

Supplier said he can credit me for the card, so I instead ordered an OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD and a Corsair HX750W PSU. These will be my final upgrades to the machine.

Anyhow, some pics of the new GFX:

Nice card, I have the 6970 windforce, its quite and runs quite cool, never see it go past 55 degrees. Im sure the 7970 will be awesome

Thanks, I'm super impressed with it thus far. :) Can't even hear it, and DAMN it's fast. :)

Next step, new Mobo and another 7970 WF. :p (I'm allowed to dream aren't I).

I'm browsing off my phone on opera mini and I can't see any pics, this rig sounds delicious and all I wanna do is see it
