Gday gents

My boet is complaining that his MX blue switch keyboard is too loud.

I've seen a few vids on Youtube about lubing your switches and the results seem good.

Does anybody have a key switch puller that I can borrow to remove his switches? Please note that I have pullers for keycaps but I need a puller for the switches.

I reside in Benoni so local would be appreciated.

You have to desolder the switch, unless the plate was designed in such a way for you to open the switches without removing them.

Kak ouma.

Laat hierdie oom julle n ding leer.

Clever, just removes the top portion, not the switch. Should be easy enough to make yourself or maybe 2 small screw drivers if all else fails?

So a few things...

The pic you posted is obviously a custom board.

Opening the switch from the top is not possible on most "mass produced" boards. It depends on the plate.

Lubing, especially if you don't want to screw it up, requires you to remove the whole switch. Lubing the in-place switch is frowned upon by the KB community and for good reason. Again, most mass produced boards, even ducky, have their switches soldered. Meaning you will have to desolder each switch.

Finally, blues are loud by nature, although you might find that most of the noise comes from bottoming out the keys. O-rings might be an easier alternative. Just don't expect night and day because blues are blues.

If you do decide to lube anyway, look at something like TriboSys 3204 which doesn't move around all that much ending with all the lube at the bottom of the key in a few months. Just be aware that any lube application won't be forever, and will eventually have to be redone.

Anyone with a Red Dragon board should have such a puller if that helps.

Nah the whole switch comes out on the Redragon boards, which he has.

Like I said, I watched a few tutorials so I will be taking the whole switch apart and doing it properly. Thinking of doing the o rings too if I can get some locally.

The switch only comes out if its hotswappable. Only certain redragon boards support this. If not, you can open a switch insides only if the plate allows you to. Otherwise you are stuck with desoldering.

Also, be careful lubing clicky switches, you could make it buttery smooth, but you could also end up making it feel dead and mushy.
