Hi, so i currently have an i5-10400f on an asus prime z490-p. I am wanting to upgrade to an 11400, as far as I know the motherboard doesn't support the cpu yet. My brother wants a new pc so I am going to help him out by swapping my 10400f for his 11400 with some extra cash. Hopefully by then the bios update will be out.

On a side note I'm thinking I should probably wait for 12th generation though.

I want to get the i5 11400 for the integrated gpu. when i upgrade my gpu i might have a short time period where i don't have a gpu. I currently have a 1060 3gb

why do you need the upgrade? i cant really see a reason to go up a gen.

i somehow doubt youre pinning your cpu currently .

I do stand to be proven wrong though

edit: just saw your reasoning

I've decided to wait for 12th gen

DDR5
ATX12VO

Be prepared to basically buy a whole new system as new DDR5 will be coming with 12th gen, as well as potentially ATX12VO which would require a new PSU too... both of which being new tech will see massive price tags at first.. and the problem with early adopters is that you will be the one to experience all the new bugs and glitches.

Considering you are looking at the mid range for 12th Gen (I'm assuming by looking at what CPU you have and are wanting from 11th Gen) spending all the money and dealing with the bugs doesn't make sense in my mind.

If you need more horsepower- I would suggest just get a 10700k.

Just don't think you are going to make use of 12th gen enough to warrant the potentially whole new system upgrade :)

But just my two cents- happy shopping :)

I'm estimating a R12k upgrade budget.

I'm not sure how much I would get for my current system if I had to sell it? i5 10400f + Asus prime z490-p + 16gb Klevv rgb 3200mhz

Honestly not sure what its worth, i would say between R4-5K.
To give you an idea, a 32GB DDR5 ram kit was seen floating around the $320 mark.. thats before it even gets to us here in SA.. and before Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron etc decide how much they want to wax this new tech..

I would say R12K is probably min budget, and remember to potentially factor in a new PSU if ATX12VO launches with 12th Gen (Which means you can also sell your current one)

Happy shopping bud :)

Thank you. 16k should be plenty for new cpu, mb, 16gb ram, new psu

I only plan on upgrading in February next year. hopefully the prices will be more manageable.

Good plan.., AMD will be launching AM4+/AM5 around then, which hopefully will help mainstream these new techs and bring prices down!
Also look online for overseas offers.. have found some seriously good prices and deals online from the states/UK/Europe- Obviously tho weight determines shipping costs, but CPU and RAM are potentials :)

Thank you man, closing thread.
