Well, I am considering a monitor over my Samsung 32" TV.

Desktop Use: Gaming
Games played most often: PUBG, League of Legends
Monitor size: preferably 27" since I am moving from 32"

Budget: R2000

Wanting to get your opinions on monitors I may be able to get at this price point (will be second hand off carbonite - going to go for a wanted thread).

The Dell SE2717H seems to be the most popular option at this price but want to see if there are others.
I do like the look of the Samsung S27E390H

Thanks

Oof, not much room with that budget. I vote the Dell too.
Or hope you get lucky and push the budget a little and get one those 120Hz Samsungs that shows up here every once in a while (forgot the name...950D I think?)

What I have experienced with Dell versus samsung in this price range is Dell has better even whites, no dark spots. Also much better contrast. That Dell model is so 75hz. My vote on Dell. I owned 3.

The Dell looks brilliant for the price, just seeing if there is anything else out there.

The Samsung monitors are R3500. There was one for R2500 from a member moving overseas. I would happily buy one for that but I would be getting it for a steal. R3K is a bit too much at this point but you could maybe get that Samsung at that price point.

Bah, is that how much they go for? seems kind of insulting considering you can get the LG 24GM77 for that price which has a much better allbeit not 3D-Vision capable panel. And the 750? At least that's what I think the middle model was called...then again I haven't see any on Carb.

Anyways, I don't need it, I already have a much better Samsung, an issue-free CFG70.

@SEXCZN had that Dell and didn't like it. Then again if you don't already know better monitors you may be fine with it.

Yeah, those Samsung's aren't cheap but they are 27" 120Hz monitors. They also feature 3D which was a new popular feature around their release. Much cheaper than their R7k price at release.

There is definitely better 24" choices at this price point and at R3k but I don't think 24" will be large enough coming from 32". Theajor issue I have with my 32" is the fact that it's mounted to the wall and right now it isn't mounted in the right position for ergonomics. I feel this could be the cause for the discomfort in my neck.

I feel 27" will be the perfect size for the desk I'll have it on but 24" might work if I have it closer.

If I could organise maybe a 24" or 27" to try that may be the better route to finding out.
The budget is a bit low. Maybe R2500 will be slightly better

Oh no, I wasn't suggesting that you go for 24". Just that there are better options than those Samsungs in general at that price point, even if they are 24", so if feel the Samsungs should be cheaper. But that's just me I guess.

To be honest, the extra 500 doesn't really put anything new in range.

Lol, yeah. Monitors can be quite expensive.

I think the Dell is what I'll be getting. Since it's the best and only monitor within my price range.

i have one of those dell ones. with that price you simply cant go wrong with them. really good colors out of box and freesync. timing cant match the the gaming monitors out there but is good enough and dont worry about pixel density, you will get used too it in two days. all and all and in my humble opinion, the best bang for the buck gaming monitor out there. also freesync is awesome :D

LG 27MP38VQ-B What about this monitor, I just found it now and goes for around R3000 as well.
Differences I found between this and the dell:
LG has thicker bezels from the looks of it
LG has a rated brightness of 200cd/m^2 vs 300 on the Dell

However the LG has an HDMI 2.0 port and DVI-D port which means I can make use of the full 75Hz over HDMI or DVI, unlike the dell where the 75Hz would be upscaled 60Hz because HDMI 1.4 cannot go up to 75Hz @ 1080p. This would be my only reason for considering the LG over the Dell.

200cd is pretty dim for gaming. You will notice it for sure. Upscale 75hz isn't an issue?

Yeah, that is my concern, with budget something is never perfect :| .
I felt there is no point in the 75Hz if it is upscaled. Since it is just capable of 75Hz but not true 75Hz @1080p. I will stick with the Dell though as there are more reviews for it and it looks classy.

There's also so much conflicting info as to whether HDMI 1.4 does do 75Hz @ 1080p.

I got the Dell SE2717H and it is a fantastic monitor. Loving it so much and it does do 75Hz over HDMI as it was stated.
