PCIE to power my Mobo... think of the ones that plug into your GPU?
Oh most definitely not, unless you want to fry everything. Motherboard 8-pin has 4x12v and 4xground, Pcie 8-pin has 3x12v and 5xground. You could be grounding a 12v connection or sending 12v where it must not be if you use wrong connectors

Yeah, The 8pin the PSUs comes with is for the CPU. If you're jamming that into your gpu you going to fry stuff. Also if you need a molex to 8pin, chances are pretty good your psu won't be strong enough for the gpu.

Please list psu, mobo and gpu like Star asked so we can help.

My MOBO is an MSI B85-G43 GAMING (MS-7816)

I am going to plug my evo labs pentium4 750watt PSU and replace the 500w corsair cx500, which currently has an 8pin plugged in next to the CPU but my 750watt only has two 6 pin's and a 4 pin. The 6 pins on evo, just like the 6 pins on the corsair both go into the GPU

I mentioned the GPU to make sure we are talking about the same family of connector type

I want a molex to 8 pin, so that I can plug into that slot that my 750watt doesn't have a connector for

What motherboard is it? And what PSU do you have?

You don't need to insert into all 8 pins on the CPU power connector there. 1 X 4pin connector is enough ( just check the clips , don't insert into the middle of the slots etc) and the PC will run unless you are overclocking which I doubt as this is a B85 motherboard.

Also why are you replacing the Corsair with an even more older PSU?

My box is an NZXT and the cable is not long enough to reach up there.

Because of 2 issues that have propped up since I switched cases and CPU's

1) when my storage drive is plugged in, it switches on but I never get to the login screen after the windows logo has gone off
2) when my GPU is plugged in, it switches on but I never get to the login screen after the windows logo has gone off

  • When both are plugged in I don't even make it to the windows logo.
  • Both were working fine on the old system.
  • I hope this has nothing to do with load shedding.
* I am trouble shooting.
  • My older PSU powered all of these components with zero issues
  • The old PC now just beeps incessantly when switched on, and only makes it into windows if only the windows drive is plugged in. No CD-Rom. Nothing.
  • Another forum has stated that this may be an issue with the card not pulling enough juice.
  • I don't know if the other MOBO is fried.

considering the connectors of your EPS and PCIe are different, if he managed to "JAM" the PCIe into EPS or vice versa, then I am pretty sure something got borked :D

how big must your psu be to pull a Gtx470?

so does anyone have a molex to pci-e adapter thing for me? O have 450 psu but it only has 6 pin for gpu. doesnt want to power my 1060.

You need to be very specific for some advice on that. If your psu has only 1 x 6-pin its probably because it is only rated to run a single 6-pin. You need to check what your GPU power requirements are before thinking of allowing it to abuse your psu. I have a few of those molex to 6-pin pcie adaptors, shipping wont help you though unless you want to snail mail it. My advice, get rid of psu, pick up something better from Carb. Psu is one if not the most important part of your pc

I have a 4pin to 8 pin adapter laying here. Pop me a pm if you still looking for one.
