I'm looking at hacking up my aging Gigabyte Sumo 5115.
I'm going to remove some of the front panels and replace it with a mesh and will also be cutting out a 120mm (or 2) hole in the top of the chassis to mount some fans to. The issue is I don't seem to be able to find modders mesh or equivalent anywhere that I am looking. Not sure if I am just looking at the wrong places and it's really the first time I am considering a proper mod on my chassis so perhaps I just am not in the know of where these places are.

Preferably somewhere in and around the Centurion area in Gauteng as I don't want to import.

Any advise on where I can find what I am looking for?

Something along the lines of the image attached.

Have you tried finding out at your local steel shops if they can't source this somewhere?

Also I know this is a lot of work, but why not mark out the 120 fans and drill the top of the case for the fans.

I'm definitely going to take a drive around a few this weekend. Sadly from their online portals it doesn't seem that most of them have the type of mesh needed for this. It's all large mesh. But I'm hoping to find something.

I'm absolutely going to be drilling the top of the case for some top exhaust fans. I'm really looking forward to it.

Steel shops might not have it on their online portals but usually keep some of the smaller mesh in the shops or they can order for you.

looking for perforated steel/alu sheets

just get the proper dimensions for what you need and then can inquire about it

Probably looking for around 200mmx200mm (2 of these). So far the places around me have not been able to source anything. The search continues

well, if you are sure it is only about 200x200, then if I manage to get it right, I have 2 old Prodigy side panels that are partially perforated and if I can manage to duplicate the holes to enlarge the area to the 200x200, then can have them

unless you willing to do the drilling yourself :p

basically this: https://www.nikktech.com/main/images/pics/reviews/bitfenix/prodigy/bitfenix_prodigy_10.JPG

only thing you might not prefer is the dimensions of the perforation (which I said earlier)

Your idea intrigues me..... And naturally I am willing to do any drilling myself. Then I can measure neatly and cut etc. The important question is, which area are you in?

scrap so just passing along so if not what looking for can just pass along or scrap yourself :p

k so Bryanston is the main location for during the week? (so can arrange something for there)

PM the address then will sort something

Marked as best answer. Considering the price of getting actual modders mesh in South Africa and then the difficulty of sourcing mesh of this sort from local hardware stores and steel suppliers, taking an old chassis side panel (Or any perforated part of old cases) is a quick and easy way to go about it. Even buying old second hand chassis seem a little cheaper than trying to source the mesh anyway.

Ok so this journey of modding my first ever chassis is teaching me some things about patience and the importance of having the right tools.
The 2mm mesh in the fron is massively tough to work with if you don't have all the equipment but so far I am pleased with what I have achieved so far.

Next steps:
Bend and mold the mesh to a nice, neat snug fit by getting the right tools
Black paint!
