Hi All,

Metrofiber has been in my area since last year but their price didnt justify the move.

They now have 20up/down for R400 so I'm considering it.

How is the provided ont/router combo ?

is the router locked down ? any restrictions to what i can do on it.
can i set their router to bridge mode and bridge the connection to my Mikrotik or fortigate firewall ?

Afrihost is R500 but i can use my own router.

Thanks

I am with metrofibre and use my own router with no limitations , or are you talking about the Ont box?
I was on 200 up and down and was lucky because they upgraded all the lines and doubled the speed for free
They gave me 500 up/down for the same price
I received a Zyxel router with my package but borrowed it to my neighbour and bought a Ubiquity Router , all the settings and stuff are real easy to setup

Also with Metrofiber in the Fourways area.Been with them for a few years now got a tplink router when i first started with 50up and down then moved to 100/100 then 200/200 then the free bump to 500/500 at R1299 considering the 1000/1000 since its not that much more.
Metrofibre has been rock solid for me in fourways.

Thanks, i have applied with them waiting for an installation date as I cancelled my Telkom already.

Yes i was referring to the ONT/Router combined unit. My neighbor got a Nokia 2425ga unit and a few others got some Calix device.
Just want to be able to use my devices to handle everything and their unit to convert fiber to ethernet

I don't think you have to worry about the ONT box , mine is also a Nokia
Your router after that is more important and depending on what your needs are , For my situation i bought the Ubiquity edgerouter
It does not have Wifi because i use Ubiquity Access points in my house

I had Unifi but moved over to a Mikrotik router and netgear AP.
Using a Fortigate firewall for dpi cause why not. 😅
