Merryfair WAU Ergonomic Office chair review

Are they safe? Never heard of them and they only accept direct bank transfer as payment.
Never used them so can't say. Spoke to Ian via email a few weeks ago. They offer collection from midrand to avoid delivery fees

I'm considering both these alternatives. Reviews seem good for each. Both in the 5k range with local companies present for support (WalkingPad & Ergonomics Direct)

Yeah. I got a used Herman Miller Aeron for R6000 but you can sometimes find them for around R5000

I'd suggest going directly to ASASA and laying a complaint. Maybe even wait till tomorrow when you will most likely see the RRP on deskandchair.co.za reduced back to R7,500.

What makes this even more suspicious is that not a single other chair on deskandchair.co.za has seen its price being inflated. Clearly this was done just for the special.
Pretty much everything marketed on OneDayOnly gets the same treatment. I saw it with furniture I was eyeing. The price on the website goes up to something bizarre while the price on ODO is the usual retail price, or maybe 5% discounted. Then the next day, back to normal.

Just my 2c, I was looking (as many people are) at office chairs and ended up with the Metro from Ergotherapy. I would 100% buy it again. 2 months in and no squeaking really comfortable and supportive, the only <4 star reviews on their site are because delivery took long ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The NetOne high-back would be the equivalent of the WAU, it's R6500 (but the Metro is great anyway if you don't need a head-rest), plus has a decent warranty and supports a local company. If it was a toss-up between Ergotherapy and the WAU, even with a R1500 price difference, I wouldn't think twice. They occasionally have 10% discounts if you're not in a rush.
(I'm not affiliated, just a happy customer and like supporting local)

I know logically that this is a good deal. I just can't imagine sitting in someone else's farts. It's bad enough with used cars...

I also saw the walkingpad one yesterday, one of the reviews even mentioned preferring it over a merryfair so it definitely looks tempting.

The aeron has a synthetic mesh fabric, it doesn't hold onto any odours so you should be fine (Well unless previous owner was a smoker - that shit sticks to all surfaces). Coincidentally, this feature allows for farting without shifting your weight - one of the many little pleasures of this chair. :)

😂😂😂

Desk and Chair dropped their price back down after yesterdays Promo on ODO.

Well seems I just caused the price to go "up" again - sorry all :<

So ASASA's web form doesnt work - tried on multiple browsers.

Their contact number says, "your account has been locked" when called.

Their form to contact them for other queries is broken.

Seems like they have once again "erroneously dropped" their prices. Your complaint forced them to back to R10000. They have now reverted to the usual R6999 in hope that we have all forgotten. In the space of 5 days it went from R6 999 to R10 000 to R6 999 to R9 999 to R6 999. All erroneously I presume

Has anyone ever experienced back pain when using mesh vs fabric? I feel like I'm going crazy but there's a noticeable difference when sitting in one or the other. Fabric always feels a lot better. Anyone else experienced this?

Seems like deskandchair haven't pumped up the price for this one. 4k on their site (same as yesterday), 3.8k on ONO today.

Anyone have the Motion? Thoughts?

Ordered my chair, excited to get it, been sitting on a takealot chair that was around R1200 [emoji23]

Nah you're not crazy, I feel the same personally. Had to return my NetOne to Ergotherapy due to increasing lumbar back pain... *personal opinion disclaimer* That chair offers barely any lumbar support, mesh was quite soft and the whole pivoting backrest thing feels very gimmicky. Lumbar support that pivots away when you sit back into it... Especially noticeable when reclining. Not to mention the very thin seat. Would have been fine if they used a denser foam. Hard to believe that it's "endorsed" by physiotherapists, whatever that means anyway..

Currently using the Merryfair WAU with fabric seat / mesh back. I have to point out the great reclining mechanism with this chair, how the armrests move with the backrest in just the right way so you don't lose lumbar support or end up with large gap between the armrests and backrest when reclining, same principle as an Aeron. Personally, it's a step up from the NetOne, however I'm noticing that the mesh is already starting to sag after about 6 months and provide less support, and I'm not exactly a big or heavy guy.. Still doesn't offer as nice of a back feel as the cheapie midback full fabric office chair I previously had.

Unfortunately it seems that most of the WAU chairs available locally are the 709 variant. In the past I tested a 609 which seemed, at the time, noticably more comfortable due to the shape of the backrest, as well as slightly deeper seat. Wondering how the full fabric 609 shape WAU chair would feel right about now, might tick all the boxes for me personally.

It's a little sad to see how much the price of this chair, and most other office chairs in general have skyrocketed in the past couple of years. This chair in reality is worth about R5k in my opinion, as it is not in the same category as an Aeron in terms of longevity... but it does seem like this particular price range is quite sparse in terms of options.

A bit off topic, to the wau but has anyone yet tried the giro from Cecil nurse? It's a lot better priced, obviously it doesn't have all the features but not everyone has that amount of money for a chair.

Currently the giro is on sale on take a lot for R2500 but compared to the sohum/offers from ergonomic direct Im unsure which one to get. If anyone is able to offer advice that would be great.

Thanks

So this just arrived from Walking Pad

fdesk2_670x.jpg

After they f*ed the order up end sent me a stationery bike (WTAF)

At 4250 for a "Demo" chair, initial impressions are pretty good. Only issue I have is that the seat back isn't height adjustable, so the head rest makes a nice shoulder rest for me

Nice, I am also looking at getting that same chair. Please let us know what you think of it once you have used it a bit.

It's been a while, how is this chair holding up, thoughts? :)

Also started looking at a replacement chair this week, so sick and tired of this "gaming" style chair I have, and the Merryfair WAU looks to be all the hype but I'm not spending the current asking price on most websites. So unless a OnedayOnly special pops up shortly on the WAU, this chair you got looks like a close second option.

PS, link to the chair - Wp Ergonomic Adjustable Office Chair

Still love it, well padded base makes sitting for extended periods much easier

My only gripe with the chair is that the backrest isn't adjustable up and down. Headrest on the shoulders doesn't help much

Mine still holding up well also, about 1.5 years, using it 10+ hours every day, happy with the purchase.

Also with the back I cant push it down far enough but I have gotten used to it. Overall very comfortable and still going strong.

I got white with mesh seats and back. Mesh still firm and not yet worn out. And im biggish, ~95Kg's

The backrest is actually adjustable up and down, in front of the spine area near the top you can see the back rest has a clip that goes into a bunch of teeth. Push the backrest forward you can move it up or down. Mine I wish I could set it further down, but its pretty decent by itself.

I gather you talking about the Merryfair WAU? I have Walking Pad ergo chair. Could have sworn there was no mechanism, will have to triple check again

Ah, yap i got the WAU chair, apologies

Went into the physical showroom to see the NetOne
got sold on the extra padding etc on the gaming chair.
Demo chair arrived yesterday while my order is being processed. Its pretty good so far

If you dont want the extra padding its the same chair as the net one

One Day Only has them on special again, for R6500.

Really hoped to see a R5k price again, I don't want to fork out R6.5k eish, guess I will have to go with the WP Ergonomics or the Metro from Ergotherapy.

Same boat as you. Not willing to fork out that for the WAU.

Here is an alternative on TA that's been getting great reviews.
