Merryfair WAU Ergonomic Office chair review

Whats the budget?

I had the Wau and it wasn't for me.

Ended up investing in a humanscale freedom chair and can't be happier .

I would be willing to spend anything between R5k and R8k. Ideally i would want something with a 5 to 10 year warranty in that price range. I would only be willing to spend more if i get some kind of return policy should the chair not be what i expect after purchase.

I don't think i am quite at the Humanscale price range yet.

I purchased this model about 4 weeks ago & it's awesome so far. Here's my short term review:

Pros:
Very comfortable, the Mesh backrest and upholstered seat is a perfect combination for me.
Build quality is great and everything is adjustable which helps a lot as I'm tall.
Lumbar support has made a massive difference in the last 4 weeks.
The resting/leaning position is adjustable which has helped a ton.

Cons ( All very minor so far):
The chair/seat width is a bit small, I'm not squashed but neither is it very spacious.
The armrests move too much, wish there was a stiff option on them.
The headrest needs to move a bit more forward to be useful when sitting up right.

Overview: Great quality, enjoying the experience so far & has helped a lot with my lower back issues.

Merryfair Wau Ergonomic Office Chair - White

@Firestorm @Wadkiller @AceSwiftShooter @Skywalker and anyone who bought this last year - how has the chair held up over the months? (Just also note which material you got, i.e. TPE, mesh, padded, etc.). I saw a review on another site where the guy used it for a year and the padded seat was sat through and the armrest broke off, so I am curious to hear your thoughts.

I've had mine for roughly 10 months now,

Mesh seat and back.

No sqweeks or cracks yet. Mesh is still relatively firm. And arm rest still attached 😄

I'm using this chair everyday for 10+ hrs

10months now, no squeaks rattles or any issues and still no back pain 😂. I have the full tpe model so no wear either

Good to hear. Has your bum become more used to the hard TPE seat? Or do you still wish you went for the padded?

This is the real question.
I am sure the TPE will last much longer than the padded, but comfort is the important bit.

This chair is a really good alternative for people that doesn't have a lot to spend (it is still expensive tho) - and it comes with 8 year warranty. There is also a dude that shows you how to sit in your chair and fine tunes the chair for your body and posture. Can highly recommend this. Fuck ga(Y)ming chairs.

Initially my ass hated it , but after 2 weeks I settled in and it's perfectly fine, I think because of the sculpted base on the tpe model it actually helps improve my seating posture.

We also have the model above the Reya in our home office with a sprung padded seat and I still prefer the hard seat.

How many names does this thing have? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

What's even more confusing is that there's two models being sold in SA with no mention of it in the product listings.

The info that I had at the time I purchased my grey TPE are that, we have the TPE's which are the 609 model with the smaller backrest and the other variations are 709 with the larger backrest. The importer is Home | office-furniture which is ODO's supplier including ITOfurniture (there are fakes out there too, original has 3 year warranty not 5 years).

I prefer the 609 backrest but my experiences are the same as Firestorms... initially I hated it. I was under the impression that the TPE seat warms up and molds to your ass but that's not true. It's literally hard plastic, not the same composition as the TPE on the backrest and headrest which is more softer. I've gotten used to it now and its definitely comfortable after the initial phase but occasionally I still get a pain at the base of my spine.

I initially ordered from ODO with foam and mesh (709) and I also felt the foam seat giving me the same pain but returned it due to an out of the box scratch on the armrest and difficulty with the lumbar adjustment. The foam seat is very high density and I found it to be a bit hard. Adjusting your chair to the correct height makes a massive difference to the pressure on your spine and ass.

I then ordered the TPE from Adel (she's awesome) at ITOfurniture after testing them all out at deskandchair. What sold me on the TPE was the backrest shape (609), comfort during the short period I sat on it and the fact that all of the sales people at deskandchair were using the Wau TPE's! o_O (You can see their desks from the showroom)

When I tested the mesh seat (709) I found that it has the most, "give" so you sink in much more in comparison to the foam and TPE.

I also have a few ticking or clicking sounds from the base mechanism after returning to the standard position from reclining. It quite audible but doesn't bother me that much since I hardly recline. It has a 3 year warranty so I might lodge a warranty claim in future.

I know that's a chunk of text but hopefully that helps any of you that are planning on buying one.

Hah, I actually brought this issue up with ODO as well, not like they care anyway.. Was hoping to get a 609 since I managed to try it out a couple months back and thought it was great - and the product photos were a mix of 609 and 709 so figured there was a chance to get the model I wanted

Ended up receiving the 709 foam/mesh which imo is not as comfortable as the 609, and weirdly enough the seat depth on the 709 (larger) model is actually shorter than the smaller 609.. o_O

Not sure why none of the resellers are listing the model and size differences... too much effort? All it took was a quick browse to Merryfair's website to look at the product datasheet...

Wish I could have tried out the different models before purchasing tbh, down here in the Cape I don't think there is a single place that carries physical stock, or has a demo room of sorts.

Does anyone have experience with the merryfair flux? Their cheaper offering

Also what is the deal with 2nd hand Herman Miller chairs, if anyone can share insights into what to look out for I sat on one and the chair itself was comfortable but the arm rests felt pap.

So has anyone had the mesh variant for more then 1 year? How has it held up? If yours is still 90% of what it was new, what do you weigh?

To me, if you are using an office chair for extended periods each day say +- 5hrs , you can't beat mesh especially in a humid region like Durban.

The Makro chair on the right has held up perfectly over 3-4 years of constant usage.

I got mesh seat and back about a year. Still great. Almost feel like elasticity of the seat is getting weaker but really only after sitting like very long. Recovers every day. Don't really notice it when sitting. I weigh about 95kgs

Where in Cape Town can i test the Wau chair ?
Try All Office; when I purchased one from Desk and Chair, they told me they'd just sent a shipment to All Office as they wanted to expand their affordable ergo chair options.
yes, I went down to all office 2 weeks ago, they have the mesh, fabric and TPE available to try as well as the Flux a more budget friendly offering from merryfair.

If anyone comes comes across a special please advise. I really have my heart set on one. Even better if it is the white frame with orange TPE.

Opinion on the aeron headrest?
Worth it?
Looking to get one for my classic aeron, however the price with shipping included is a bitter pill to swallow.

It's a must have @mikewazar will agree.

@virus786 I would not use an Aeron without a headrest. If you're buying in, you're either fully in or better off going with a cheaper chair that comes with a headrest. That's not my opinion, its objective facts from the kool-aid.

Then it is settled. Time to bite the bullet on the Atlas.

I have to say that since owning the aeron, i yearn to tip back and relax my neck every now and then. I think I just needed some motivation to click that order button. [emoji23]
