Mecer K3G3R 31.5" QHD (2560x1440) 144Hz Freesync Curved Gaming Monitor - REVIEW-

Hot tip for those experiencing motion blur and smearing. I oc'd my K3G3R to 155hz last night and I have to say 80% of it is gone, the motion is crazy smooth and text is easily readable. Playing Rainbow six Siege it has made a world of difference to the experience.

I tried 165hz and the monitor just turned off, 160hz works but its buggy 159 gives a few frame skips. 155hz zero issue, added bonus the monitor reads it as 223hz. :ROFLMAO:

@SoF_ZA tried it with his and also noticed a massive difference. His panel refused 160hz, but 155hz was no problem. I would assume 99% of these panels will happily run @ 155hz.
Just tried 155, it's just as smeary as 144.

Yes it's a phone pic, not like you can screenshot this test. Regardless of the shitty pic, the black smearing is clear.

EDIT: Will test with APEX tonight. Maybe it's better ingame.

:(
I saw an immediate improvement on mine.

I have response time set to high and noise reduction low with freesync/gsync on.

@SoF_ZA had done the UFO test and noted a serious reduction in blur.

Hi all,

Have tried the above. I'm Not sure what it is but it does seem a lot smoother at 155hz. Will try to make some comparative photos of the ufo test tonight.

All I can say is that in R6 Siege, especially the darker scenes, motion blur does seem improved.

Regards,

SoF

Hmm. Will also try out the OC, as well as Zageroth suggested, tonight. ( am not currently running gsync at all )
@SoF_ZA are you guys doing the gsync/frame lock on top of the OC? Or just defaults, with oc?

I have not tried the frame lock, I'm guessing this would apply for large frame rate drops. Running a 1080ti so the games I play rarely drop below 100 #humblebrag

Where do u OC?

The most noticeable difference is scrolling carb, and even gmail in dark mode. At 120hz/144hz it was kinda 🤮 now its bearable

Ok so there's a bit of a difference in Apex for me, might be placebo. Either way, extra hertz... I'll take it.

Change refresh rate to 155hz.

Click test, the monitor should display no problem. If it turns off and goes into standby then turn it off and on again. I wouldn't OC your panel in this case.

Thanks. That was easy. Only concern now is the monitor OSD shows "Resolution: 2560x1440@68Hz"
Is this correct?

I'm pretty sure its just the firmware being like "wtfbbq" . Mine reads 268hz oc'd to 156hz. Works fine, zero issue and much improved ghosting etc. If you dont notice any difference @ 155hz then might as well just run it in spec 144hz.

Any way to update firmware?

On a different note. before I had this monitor I had a Samsung 43" UHD screen. I ran 4K60fps no issues ever.
When I eventually replace it with this monitor, I started to get a lot of game crashes. Especially Apex, BF5 and The Division 2.
It was so irritating that I actually stopped playing games for 4 months.
Last week I dusted of everything when I joined Uplay+. Guess what? Still crashing like a mofo!!!

I updated all drivers, clean installed display drivers with DDU, disabled the Gsync, dropped refresh rate back to 60hz. NO CHANGE!

1 out of every 5 games, I can play for about 3 hours straight, no issues.
Other 4 times, CRASH!!

1 out of 10 crashes, I get BSOD with CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT.
Other 9 times, in Event Viewer, it is almost every time: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I really have tried everything, except reinstalling Windows.
So the only "hardware" change that actually happened was switching to DisplayPort instead of HDMI. Can this maybe be the problem?

Rockin IT running a pretty good price at the moment, cheapest from what I can see online.
R6,099.00

If they can get a monitor stand that I want (Aavara TC210), I will be placing my order through them. Will be using this monitor as a movie/secondary monitor. @PsychoticKing

Stand is in stock: Aavara TC210 LCD Monitor Stand-Clamp base - Rockin IT

Clamp base stand designed for LED/LCD display 15-24 inch with VESA 100x100mm

Would it have the height to support a 32inch ?

So my initial thoughts here are quite simple. When you run 4k60fps your gpu might work alot less than trying to maintain 144fps @ 1440p. The resulting outcome here is that your GPU is under ALOT more stress , which causes alot more heat. The resulting outcome there is that your overall system becomes alot more taxed and if you have any issues with overclocks, ram timings , PSU issues will prove alot more visible.

I've seen countless times where I run a game with fps locked on 60fps to see my GPU idling around the 50deg/c mark. Disable the frame lock and my gpu temp spikes over 70.

It's not the screen :p It's your machine working harder to maintain that fps.

Technically no.. But I do have an extension boom which would easily give it the height clearance.

So guys, having bought this monitor.

Loving the 144Hz, coming from 60Hz. but I have one concern/issue.

I have faint horizontal lines along the panel, almost like scan lines, do any of you have this? or is maybe a faulty panel?

Did you buy it from Rockin iT? If so please can you send me photos to info@rockinit.co.za so i can have a look at it.

Nope I bought it off someone, they are very faint lines, enough to be ignored while gaming, but really annoying on a light background

Well check with that person who he bought it from. If its from us, we can gladly assist in getting the monitor sent back for warranty.

Does increasing power and voltage on Afterburner affect my warranty?
MSI Afterburner keeps on showing Voltage LIMIT in the OSD when I play. Is this normal or does this mean my card is not getting enough voltage or power?

Nope - however , it will increase heat and stress on your GPU :)

Just bought this monitor, plugging it in for the first I was horrified by the image quality. Coming from a 1440p 27" 60hz , I was rather disappointed.
I spent 2 days tuning and tuning settings , I tried various games and some games even crashed to desktop.
I was about to give up when I decided to do a clean driver install and monitor driver removal (using ddu). O boy was I wrong . Immediately I saw the real monitor. Nice !!!!.
I think window installed a generic monitor driver causing all the issues. All smooth sailing now.
And here I thought a clean driver install was overrated.
