Hey Guys

I'm not a total noob to OC but i havent tinkered around with voltages and dram, anyone OC'd one of these before?
The aim is to be able to run FH4 at 1080p60 &/ 4K at about 30fps with my rx570.

Pc Specs:
MB: Asus Maximus Gene 3
CPU: Xeon X3430 @ 2.4ghz(currently stock)
Cooler: Antec A30
Ram: 12gb generic( 3 x 4gb @ 1333mhz)
GPU: GIgabyte Rx570 4gb Gaming
PSU: Andyson 800w Semi-Modular(792w on 12v rail)
SSD: Transcend 256gb (boot drive and games)

Any further advice will be highly appreciated as I have finally given up my XB1 to join the master race.

First off, wow thats a rare board damn nice!

And your limiting factors is going to be your cooler and also a little bit that 1333 mhz ram in my opinion.

Base clock overclocking goes hand in hand with ram clock, there are good guidelines videos on overclocking on the web. These were the funest gen to oc. Basically start at the highest baseclock with the lowest multiplier and the highest rated voltage for your cpu (1.4v) to see if you have a good chip and how the cooler handles things. From there it's alot of back and forth to get the sweet spot.

That being said don't expect a massive jump in fps in games as oc'ing the cpu will only give you 10% fps boost at max.

Pretty sure that game is more GPU bound then CPU. Agreed faster RAM will help, but honestly, I'd 1st got for a better card. AFAIR a 580 is ~ = to a 1060? So I'll assume a 570 is ~ = to a 1050Ti/3GB 1060.

Branded gaming RAM OC's very easily and runs cool VS generic RAM.

This vid has a 570 + 16600x @ 1920x1080p , mainly Ultra settings and gets ~65-70FPS. 4K @ ultra would be ~ 17FPS, so you'll need to drop to medium to get a reliable 4k (in theory).

If you can get the CPU to 3.4Ghz you'll be good. That said I'v never OC'ed a Xeon and not sure how well they OC, nor how good that cooler is.

In this vid -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUy4ActSShM - a i5 8600 doesn't seem to go over 50% so def seems more GPU leaning. The 1060 6GB does 15-30 more FPS then the 3GB version.

Thanks for the advice. The ram is physically 1600mhz but board and cpu only go to 1333mhz, bought the board of a carbie for an great price

The reason for oc'ing is mainly game requirements and after doing some reading I believe this game likes cores as well hence I'm not using my i5 650 which is 3.2ghz base but 2 core 4 threads opposed to 4 cores 4 threads in x3430. Also if I'm not mistaken in stock form only one core boosts to 2.8ghz, I think I will aim for 3.2ghz with all core boost to 3.6ghz.

Should the cooling be my limiter, I will upgrade to a beefier cooler. 4k30fps isn't really a big deal for me as I have been playing on console all along. I will try 1440p though.

Okay, no with a overclock it will go to 1600 then easy, then it's just the cooler that's a wee bit to small, but you should get to 3.6/3.8ghz fairly easy and stable. But also agree with souljazk on the GPU.

Board will do ram up to 2133mhz, so that's not your limiting factor

Ideally I would like the Temps to stay under 70 @ full load, I also plan on throwing in 3 x 120mm fans on the case for airflow but I wanna go for a positive airflow case. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for that, so it's mainly my cpu then. X3470's go for like R350-R500 on ebay/ aliexpress so that might be another option.

A big hurdle is the clock speed of your CPU.

Link your RAM and CPU together and overclock until your CPU is unstable. Try keep your CPU and RAM on a 1:1 ratio when overclocking.

Games like more ghz over more cores but that doesn’t mean 1080P is out of reach, depending on the game.

From what I understand Fh4 also likes cores and 1080p should definitely be within reach at mostly ultra settings. Once my cooler arrives I will report on settings and fps

To delid or not to delid? That's the next question. If delid, what thermal paste should I use?

Did you play around a little to see what you currently can get with your current cooler and what temps it can handle?

Delivery was delayed, so still waiting on the cooler. I will post Temps once the cooler arrives

Yeah I'd advise to go from there bud, the TIM used on those Xeons was good quality, or lets say better than today's stuff lol.

So I got a deepcool gammaxx archer instead, put everything together and I'm stuck on mobo splash screen I have options to press del enter setup but my keyboard is getting any power, tried all 6 7sb 2.0 ports

Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk

Might by the keyboard thats toast, also could be the cooler is on a bit to tight?

Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk

Reseated the cooler and removed another ram module. Passed the splash but now I got blue screen of death, I'm going to try my ssd

Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk

No overclock applied?

Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk

Nope, clear the cmos a few times. Removed the cmos battery as well

Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk

This all just after you replaced the cooler?

Well this Mobo cpu and cooler are purchased recently as I have an hp z200 workstation

Yeah no i understand that, but it was running fine before, or did you only put it all together now for the first time?

This is the first time putting this together

After switching to the ssd, it goes to black screen after boot splash

Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk

Do you have a usb boot drive with windows on?

Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk

I'm all out off ideas now bud lol. But something on that board might be faulty, try to disable all onboard features in the bios like sound and Ethernet etc

Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk

I'm going to try removing the cpu and checking the pins thereafter will go into bios and disable inboard features
