Matrix DVI to HDMI adapter

Has anyone bought one of these or something similar. I need to know if it is capable of pushing more than 1920x1080 though it?


This adaptor makes it easy to enjoy the ultra-high definition video HDMI delivers with HDMI to DVI

It's for family and I don't have a monitor with more than 1920x1080 to test on. I think their monitor is 2560x1600 and I need to bring a solution with before I go there. I'm still trying to get the model of the monitor, but it sounds like it has display port and DVI inputs. The graphics card has HDMI, DVI and VGA. So I'm wanting to use the adaptor and a HDMI cable. Otherwise I need to get a dual link DVI cable.

Erm, bad news on the 2560 x 1600, that is the resolution of my Dell 30", and it requires a dual link DVI cable...

That's fine, my question is more of does that adapter use all the dual link pins and convert to a proper signal that can carry the higher resolution over the correctly spec'ed HDMI cable.

I got one. I can quickly test it out for you 🤙;)

Nope, HDMI is single link...
 
I'm not guru on this, but DVi & HDMi are different technologies. HDMi being single link can do > 1920x1080 easily, but DVI must be dual link as mentioned to do your desired res. Best bet - dual link DVi to HDMI adapter, and add a HDMI cable. THats what I did to get 2560x1080 successfully, without hassle on my UW.

HDMI 1.3 is a higher speed link.

Single link and dual link is a wiring specification, I do not know of an updated DVI specification that can do 2560x1600 @60Hz on single link (2560 × 1600 @ 30 Hz is possible). Also doubt the monitor would support the higher speed, else it would have had a HDMI 1.3 port.

The DVI spec is 20 years old...

Thanks the point is to spend as little as is needed. The adapter has the 24+1 pins on the DVI side, so that would indicate that it is potentially dual link unless some of the pins aren't used?

Thanks, can you please clarify some things? Was the DVI plugged into the card or monitor (not sure if it matters, but I'll have the DVI on the monitor) and what resolution were you able to get at what refresh rate?

Not enough information to comment on? Maybe the DVI is on the display card, and is thus sending a HDMI 1.3 signal out the DVI port, which is unlikely to be compatible with a pre-HDMI monitor...

You did say you wanted a solution that you know WILL WORK, not MAY WORK...

Mine was plugged in at the monitor but I never tried pushing more than full hd

Eish dude, i tried and came out inconclusive. Highest Resolution i was able to push out on my 4k Monitor was 1920 x 2160 @ 30hz a pretty weird resolution i would say. But good luck otherwise ;)(y)

Ok, so that is more in line with what @WiZard was saying. Thanks guys, will just have to go the dual link DVI cable route.
