Good luck. You deserve a nice role at a large corporate with good hours, with those sort of qualifications.

Thank you. I wish, but this job search has not been kind.

I think a lot of companies are extremely risk-averse at the moment, so their willingness to hire juniors has pretty much evaporated.

Based on my application data, the conversion rate for an application moving to the interview (or screening call) stage sits at about 1%.

I get what you mean. All you can do is make yourself as visible as possible and you def will get some calls soon.

FYI applications for the Standard Bank Grad Programme opened at the end of May

Thanks. Unforch I get auto filtered by their ATS. I have applied to every grad program I could find, but something about my background/history/age or whatever just doesn't make the cut for them.

Anyways.. Bump?

Just something to help with ATS. These systems are not smart. They are designed to look for key words. Take your resume, put it through an AI and ask it to design your resume to be AI HR friendly with it highlighting your skills and achievements. Another step is to copy all the information of the role you want to apply for and paste that into the AI and ask it to design your CV specifically for that role you want to apply for.

If it passes ATS and a human reads it just know they will skim it, which is also why you need to highlight your skills and achievements.

Also consider applying overseas.

Weekly recap (over the past 2 weeks):

- Ghosted (>3 weeks without contact after follow ups) by 4 companies after the 2nd/3rd interview stage and having done presentations / technical tests.

- Had a recruiter bait and switch me to try get me to sign documentation for a totally different role at a different company -- Second time this has happened.

- Had an interview scheduled then had it abruptly cancelled the day before with the reason "we don't think you'll be a fit" -- (Then why schedule the interview???)

- Had another company put me through 3 interviews, a full research essay, a technical test, a presentation, 3 hours of invasive psychometric testing and a full background check, ghost me for weeks, and then had the nerve to ask for more broad sweeping and legally dubious indemnifications for yet another set of checks.
All while not telling me if I've got the job, nor how much I'll be paid if I did.

- Did like 6 interviews, 2 presentations, 2 tests.

Anyway... Anyone hiring? :cry::cry:

The ats keyword matching in my experience does very little.
Not only does it take enormous amounts of verification effort because of the hallucinations, but it makes your CV read quite... AI-like and not at all like a human wrote it.

Trust me, I have been through iteration after iteration. I even had a full Claude project setup that stored an information bank and tailored a cv to every job description. Optimising the CV for ATS feels a bit like an exercise in turd polishing at this point.

And the greater concern is that it will immediately eliminate all differentiating factors from the cv so it might pass ats and then get kicked to the curb by the hiring manager.

Also consider applying overseas.
There's this little green book that all the other countries turn their noses up at :(.
