Mates External stopped reading on his pc

Good Evening All,

I want to ask if anyone has experienced or has advice on how to recover data on my mates' external, it worked yesterday, today it won't pick up on his pc, has his work files on there which he hasn't backed up so we need to cover the data before it dies if it is on its way out, because it just won't read on any PC today.

Getdataback 4.25 saved my data from a drive that would just show the drive icon. If I clicked on it my pc would freeze.

getdataback install it and run it. I copied all my data and after that recovered a mates 4tb.

Failing that DDRescue is built into some Unix distro's , but can always be downloaded. I'v used this to recover data, so long as the drive spins and doesn't click etc.

Install HDsentinal, open it up and then plug the drive in. Might take a while for it to show, but you'll be able to see what the disks health is like. Could just be some basic partition corruption.

/i – applicable to a NTFS volume only. This option performs a check of index entries

Nate went around to find professional data recovery but it's like R5-7000🙈

If HDsentinal won't display the drive health after 2min, unplug the drive and rather seek professional help.

Did he try removing the drive and connecting it to the PC via Sata cable?????

I mean external usb connections become faulty allllll the time from use. Maybe its not reading because the mini usb is loose

I don't know if he removed it from the casing, j did suggest it but don't think so. As far as I understand he is the middle person and advising a friend.

It is for a friend yes, but he did some searching and it's the specific model of his toshiba, it's like 2 weeks old but the chip they use inside this model is fucked basically, he found many people having the exact same problem where it just clutches out seemingly randomly.
