Hey all,

Hope all is well. I recently picked up a Asus Strix 1080ti. I did a few heaven benchmarks and the scores seems okay (no overclocking).

For some reason, i only get between 80-100 frames on DotA 2 (The game I mostly play). Unless I'm being over eager thinking I should at least get 144 frames in DotA with a 1080ti. All settings are maxed out with no v-sync or frame limits.

My system specifications:

Intel Core i7 9700K
Asus Strix Z390-E
ADATA XPX 3000Mhz 8GB (I need more, but dont think this is causing the bottleneck, or whatever?)
Asus Strix 1080ti
Asus 240 AIO

I read on some forums that my screen can have an impact on the frames (I can't believe this). I currently have a normal LG 24'' 1920x1080 60Hz

Any advise or help will be greatly appreciated!

So...a 60hz screen will only yield a max of 60 FPS. Doesn't matter what those counters say - the max you're seeing with your eyeballs is always going to be 60 FPS on that screen.
You chasing higher FPS makes little sense to me with the limiting factor being a 60hz screen.
Never played DOTA but a 1080ti for competitive gaming certainly needs a better screen than a 60hz one.

There is nothing wrong with the scores you are getting....

I am not intending to keep the 60hz screen. Just added the monitor for reference and to what I have found on other forums.

No send it to me first, I will properly test it.

Might keep it for a while.
Don't trust the above member, he selling a machine that can change coke into water. what kinda scam is that when water freely flows out any tap.

Have you tried doing a DDU? I max out Dota at 240fps on 1440P with a 1080TI so think you're having a driver issue or that card is dying.

Do you get those frames right off the bat, or only in certain stages of the game/ huge fights, 40 mins into game? Because I play(ed) a shit load of dota, and on my 1080 ti I also experience those fps drops, albeit for short periods. Its sometimes a kak engine.

Demo a hero and tell us what fps you're getting there (assuming you've maxed it in the video options to 240 frames).

It's not like I am getting any drastic frame drops. Even during fights or after 40min of gameplay it's constantly on average 80fps.

This just doesn't seem normal to be, as I got those frames with my 1060.

And as @Vinnige Fanie mentioned, he is maxed out on 1440p, while I can't even achieve 140 on 1080p

And obvious assumptions aside, you're not limiting your card via vsync/gsync/nsync/backstreet boys?

Any other recent games you have with in-game benchmarks we can use to compare to rule out the game versus card? (e.g. Rise of the tomb raider, far cry 5, etc)

Bonus question: have you tried Vulkan for shits and giggles?

Try as a member above suggested.
Download latest drivers from Nvidia website (do this first), but don't install yet.
Disconnect lan/wifi after driver is downloaded
Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)
Reboot PC while internet is disconnected
Install downloaded Nvidia Drivers
Once install is complete plug in lan/connect wifi again.

This is to prevent windows from automatically downloading 'latest' drivers which can most likely cause issues if you install latest nvidia drivers (from their site) over these drivers.

No fancy limiting options, also in Nvidia control panel I checked that v-sync is not enabled.

I'll give it a bash with Far Cry I think tomorrow during the day.

I have actually not tried it with Vulcan support, will give that a try as well, thank you sir!

Because heaven is kak dated. Its good to burn the card but imho have not aged well to compare fps. Thats why I say, try a more recent game. Anything, even if it doesnt have an in-game benchmark to compare 'scene frames' to someone with a comparable system.

That being said, all I know is doto can gief you kak sometimes. Speaking of which...time for me to go io carry a game

Give Superposition a bash and post your results.
As Hein said above, you never going to get amazing scores with Heaven.
In fact 3dmark is probably you best bet but first either do a reload or DDU and reinstall your drivers.

try getting another 8gb ram to run dual channel

Single channel with one stick of RAM is kak. CHANGE IT ASAP.

I rushed to finish the last levels of Gears 5 on one 16GB stick of 3200MHz because the other stick was faulty and both had to be sent off for RMA.

That was a painful and stuttery experience. Had to lower settings from ultra as the FPS and Frametime drops were noticeable even with 1440p Freesync on an over locked 1080Ti.
In fact, when I played on 2x8Gb DDR4 2666mhz it felt a million times better than one 16Gb stick of 3200MHz.

Also 8Gb is really not the best amount for gaming. Games use about 11-12Gb, so atleast 2x8gb is recommended.

had the same experience recently with a game. ran one 8gb and it was terrible. as soon as i installed another 8gb, it was noticeably better

Okay so did a benchmark on Farcry 5 and everthing seems normal.

Starting to think that my DotA config files might be a issue of some sort.

Only strange thing is, I formatted over the weekend and directly installed DotA from Steam (no backup used). So I don't know what else to do.

Going to echo @Nyt Ryda and @icucme here. 8GB is theoretically enough for Dota but one mustn't underestimate the amount of RAM being used in the background for other stuff.

Remember the GPU benchmarks are designed to isolate the GPU's performance as much as possible from the other components. Based on your scores your GPU is not broken, but they don't tell the full story of how it's interacting with your other components.

So I think we won't know for sure until you've tested it with 16GB of dual-channel RAM.

Just played a few hours of Farcry 5 with higher frames than DotA xD

Going to delete my cfg and config files and verify files on DotA and see if that changes anything

Those are numbers you would be getting with a 8gb Gtx 1080. I would assume you are running your memory in single channel?
