i have decided that i wont buy anyone elses crap anymore. they all fucking lie. Car salesman are the scum of the earth.secondhand cars you almost have to spend money the moment you get it. not to mention when they dont tell you car has been in an accident etc untill you try to sell it.

I would rather put down that money as a deposit and buy a small car upto 150 and get it financed. at least like that you know the history of the car since it is new and it will look after you if you look after it.

ok

Try look at vwclubsa forums (not only vw's there). You will have to register before viewing classifieds. Usually decent cars there unless otherwise stated. Don't get a modified car. Always try negotiate. Perhaps make a thread here with potentials and get some opinions from the community. EDIT: I'm sure there are guys here to give you tips on what to look out for when you buying a certain model. As for mileage. I know of older cars running well over 500000km and still going. Obviously they have been well looked after.

Lol don't you work at a motor spares or something?

Besides he needs to expect all that for R20-40k.. My buddy is leaving for Korea on Moday and he sold his rusted 1996 Tazz for 25k(value as per insurance 9k). No Handbrake, torn seats. Asked the buyer WTF she said her brother is a mechanic and said its cheap to fix.

They hold their price and are so easy to maintain. My first car was an 87 mint corolla we got on auction for R12.5k. I drove it for 4 years and then sold it as is to the first offer of 25K even with 3rd gear not working anymore.

+1 on getting finance for a higher priced car. A secondhand i10 or something for around 100k will probably set you back about R1500 max a month after putting a 40k deposit. You'll sleep so easy at night and might even get it with a warranty or use the extra cash to get one.

Well not all of us have the luxury of putting down a 40K deposit. I appreciate all the help and stuff but keep in mind I only have R40K+- for a car

40K Cash on hand or Can finance up to 40K. I think that is where the misunderstanding originated from with @Spectaitor

At 40k you can definitely get a fully functional Atos. Light on fuel and cheap to maintain.

If you need something bigger an Almera is decent in that range.

Im looking to sell my 2005 Citroen C2 soon, it has 233 000KM

It a nice starter car, its cheap and it has quite a lot of features.

So you are saying that you will only EVER have R40k to spend on the car? Coz, like, you'll be fixing it up real soon if you get unlucky (Chances of that are pretty high). What is stopping you from getting finance and using cash as depo?

One decent crash in that tin can and you are dead.

Me paying off the R40K loan first is what is stopping me. I don't have the means to pay off a loan and then monthly installments as well
AAAAH, then you aren't exactly buy it cash then broski?? Correct me if I'm wrong, if the loan isn't coming from a bond then your interest is going to be through the roof if it's not financed? Unless its a loan from another person ofc, which in that case, you are lucky!

This is a tricky subject. Everyone has their own views on what or what not to buy so I suspect you will have 10-20 pages on this thread before you buy a car lol.

With the limited budget there will most likely be something wrong with the car that you buy. Everyone lies even dealers.

Maybe save for a few more months first to build up a cash total. If you repaying the 40k what are you going to use to fix the car if something happens?

The best way is to find a granny that cant drive anymore and the family is selling the car that she hardly used for cheap cheap.
Or find a car through a friend/family

Dude just buy a sweet ass motorbike. No regrats
