Well as the title says , i need advice on an ISP that has a quality fibre network.

We have been with telkom since 2000 and its time to move on. Frogfoot is the fibre provider in our neighbourhood and because of this i have been interested in VOX, mainly because their prices are not to bad and they have a voice service which my parents will need, also their communications with me thus far have been without a fault.

So any advice on who to choose and who not too would be much appreciated.

I'm with Cool Ideas (in Cape Town) and have been very impressed with them.

Maybe have a look at Axxess as they are based in PE so they might have a different routing strategies to the ISP's who are in CT/JHB.

Frogfoot is congested in PE and often suffers downtime for short periods.

I was with Axxess/Frogfoot- Axxess side was 100% except when calling support- Min 15min hold time just to talk to someone.

I've moved areas since then and am now on Cool Ideas/ Openserve(a bit more expensive for the fiber line), but can honestly say the support and uptime has been great. Cool ideas call me when they pick up an issue which has only been once since I started using them in August.

I've been with Axxess on Openserve and am now with Afrihost on Frogfoot.

While was on Openserve and Axxess I wasn't happy with the support I was getting. Every Friday and Sunday night I would get packet loss making gaming very difficult. Axxess never could give me a straight answer and kept dodging the question whether I was being throttled even though I was on a capped account and should have effectively been on the highest priority.

That being said when I was on afrihosts 10MB package the performance was terrible so I upped to 20MB which eased my troubles but there are still times when I get a dip in speeds. As others have said I think Frogfoot is quite congested causing a lot of their problems.

Everyone I know who uses Vox is happy with them, they just didn't have a package I was interested at the time but if I ever grew unhappy with Afrihost I would probably move to them.

Good luck cancelling your Telkom account, especially if you have a telephone line. It took me about 9 months with confirmation literally every month that it was cancelled and I wouldn't be billed again. A bunch of incompetent Muppets, the lot of them.

Vox all the way. I use their FTTH & FTTB with clients & at my house (moved from Cool Idea's - they're a total joke - their support is like Telkom's AKA reading off a script & no actual knowledge of troubleshooting; support is 8am-8pm & I think excl Weekends & public holidays which is pathetic at best).

Are Vox perfect? No. Is any ISP. No. They do have downtime, but in CT any large downtime is usually sorted in 1 hour. Never had downtime last longer than 2 hours.

Thanks for your comment, Vox was my original plan, now to tackle getting our contract canceled

I have no complaints with Afrihost. their support if something does go wrong is top notch. i just use their App for everything

Thanks for the info, one of the main reasons we want to move on from Telkom because they are a bunch of headless chickens

Thanks for the information, will definitely have a good look at the said ISPs before we make the move.

sorry to drage this up again but try to look for an ISP that is supplied by openserve - all openserve customers are gettng their speeds doubled for free as from beginning of this month - mine was upgraded from a 20mbps upload/20mbps download to a 50mbps download/25mbps upload from the 1st - and they say it will remain price fixed for the upgrade

while i am not in your area i think that this is nationwide as far as openserve is concerned

Lucky for you, unfortunately the only fiber provider in my area is Frogfoot, so it will have to be through them.

I am aware of this, main reason why I'm considering them, but thanks for the info everyone appreciate it😄
Personally my main reason is the great 24/7 support, which I've hardly ever had to use, but it never failed me when I did need it.
