I need to help source a high end laptop for a Business executive, budget of 30k
Needs to be highly mobile so max 14", must have long battery life and simple to use.
Most of the time will likely be running presentations, so will need to look at projector later.

He was looking at the Lenovo X1 carbon, until it came to light supplier was trying to sell a old version that still shipped with win 8
I was then asked to help out, but I'm out of touch with high end laptops
I am after any advice, recommendations, experiences , including after-sales service .

my initial thoughts are :
Asus expertbook / Dell Xps / Huawei matebook?

Apple not an option.

Same here bud....had the same thoughts as well...at the moment I've got a P52 workhorse but it's heavy and bulky.

Any advice would help gents

Good day @Kill Switch

I haven't personally used high end business laptops (I went budget laptop -> gaming laptop -> high end PC).

However my brother is a software developer and has used many over the years, including 2 ThinkPad X1 Carbon's, ThinkPad P52 & (P53 I think), Dell XPS, Dell Precision M6600, Apple Macbook Pro.

In his opinion the build quality & reliability of the ThinkPads are unmatched, even the Dell's don't compete.
They also offer good battery life (6-8 hours light usage) in models without a dGPU or 4k screen.

That would lead me to recommend getting a newer model ThinkPad X1 Carbon from a trustworthy retailer or reseller on Carb.
As far as I know Lenovo's on site warranty service is decent if it is available.

If you are looking for the best value for money, the Wootbook range from Wootware (SA rebranded distributor for Tong Fang OEM laptops) are decent quality and offer excellent specs for the price. (However I don't think that is a major concern if your budget is R30K).

Good luck with your search.

I've been recommending & supplying Dell Latitude or Precision laptops for the last 15 years. Super reliable and the global 3 year Next Business Day warranty is worth every penny.
So for a decent 14", Dell Latitude 7420
Don't know the seller but I found list current listing
I personally have been using the Dells for the last 10 years, but the bigger brother, currently have a latitude 5590, but its way to heavy for what he wants. So am a little based to them.

In his opinion the build quality & reliability of the ThinkPads are unmatched, even the Dell's don't compete.
I have heard that more than once, the Ideapad design just always feels dated with the dam red accents, next to the Asus and XPS.

The newer Latitude 7420 is tiny and around 1.2kg for the carbon fiber version, 1.3 for the aluminium
