Keyboard Nut Thread

How are the Lavender Purples for gaming? I've been looking at them for something different apart from Gateron Reds and Yellows.

Haven't gotten around to sticking them in my board. I'll hopefully be trying them over the weekend when I have some time. First impression from the 3 I stuck in my board for "checking them out" is that they are damn good for the price, even stock. I was really pleasantly surprised how smooth both the lav's and the jelly's were out the box in comparison to say a gat brown / cherry red and even compared to my lubed lynx switches.

Morning All,

Thought I'd do a little update this morning after being sick as a dog for the last 2 weeks, but still managing to get some work put it.
Firstly, been playing with Concrete as a medium, and can happily say that we can now offer Concrete Wrist Rests, so that's pretty cool. I still haven't worked on the website, I'm sorry about that, just haven't had the extra time to get to it with being sick and having quite a large workload over the last few weeks!!

Also started our first preparations to engage with Corporate clients over the last week, basically we are now going to companies that have a decently staffed software developer team, and doing a really nice presentation around Custom Keyboards and the benefit of them, and then the guys get to play with some of the latest and greatest gear that comes with the hobby!! Very Very cool stuff. If anyone is interested in this, please let me know, it costs nothing, and you wont believe how many people don't know this scene exists, or have been suffering with crappy keyboards for years and years!!

Keep Safe Everyone.

So I have a few new photos for on some work done, so here we go:

Hay @sabie
What are the Jelly's like?
Want to get some new switches and have been thinking about getting some as i'm getting over my glorious panda's.

The Jelly blacks are really smooth for a stock switch and stem wobble is better than almost every other switch I have around. The bounce back is a lot more than on my lynx switches so they seem a bit poppy/louder. I'm expecting some spring ping, as I've seen some people talk about it, so might lube the springs if that is the case.

My new caps are arriving today so will probably pull the board apart this weekend and install the jelly blacks and use them stock for a bit first to get a real impression other than 10-15mins of playing around. Maybe lube some of the extras to see what the difference is. I've seen some people talk about them being mushy once lubed, but as we all know it's personal opinion.

Can't comment on the jelly tactiles, but the "normal" lavenders I got also feel very very nice. Bought them because they were cheap, thinking I'd try them and probably sell them but now I'm planning on buying board to put them in for using with my macbook 😂

Thanks dude.
Yeah, the price is crazy affordable.
Am really stuck between moving back to some linears or sticking with the tactile's
Maybe i should get 2 packs of both :devilish:

I think some of the other jelly's might be rad as well, but I wanted switch housing that wasn't going to colour my rbg when set to white. Hence why I went with the blacks, also weighting on the blacks seemed okay for me.

I'm trying to figure out my first custom-ish build.

Ive had CM Quickfire TK and XT, both with browns, for 6+years. The XT especially has been a trooper. But I'm looking to modernize with Bluetooth/wireless for the multiple systems I need to control as well as upping the tactility, but decreasing sound.
Form factor wise I use F Keys often enough that I would like 75%.
I would like to be able to modify the layout so QMK & VIA would be important.
A knob would be nice, but not essential. I do NOT want to solder boards etc, so a bare-bones kit would be best.

Board:
RK 84 Looks to be my best option.
Q1 isn't wireless
K2 isn't programmable
Akko MOD007, is unfortunately only wired, otherwise I would have ordered it already.
GMMK Pro is also only wired and, even worse, only in stock with shittech. So that not an option.

Switches:
I'm leaning towards what is in stock in SA and the Shrimps seem to fit the bill for me, but am open to more suggestions. There are so many switches out there...

Stabilizers:
Some form of supported screw in. I don't know much about them, but the crappy costar style will not be touch any keyboard I ever own again.

Keycaps:
I prefer muted colours, so will probably get Akko Black & Cyan or Dracula set.

Soundproofing:
I've got o-rings and foam for Spacebar. So primarily concerned with board internal sound deadening, but that would be highly dependent on the board I end up going with.

Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Joined the 40% club, still have lots to learn regarding the layout of this keyboard and utilising the QMK Software to get the most out of this keyboard.

Next on the list is to get a cable from Cookie Atom to match the keyboard.

TG4X 40%
Worldspawn Keyboards Acrylic Case
Tai-Hao Keycaps
NK Silk Switches (POM linear switches, factory lubed with Krytox 205g0)

Verryyyyy nice

Anyone selling 75% barebones boards? looking for something nice.

Something like the GMMK Pro or MOD007 or Keychron Q1

Akko MOD-series boards have awesome cases, but are seriously let down by their shitty MCU’s. No QMK/VIA! Seriously? Only get them if you only need to do basic remapping and don’t need stuff like Tap/Hold or tap dancing.

I’ve got the Mod004, which is really nice for work, but very annoying when subconciously still hitting keys like my Tofu and not getting the response I wanted.

Which others would you recommend, because there aren't many options in SA, maybe Keychron or GMMK Pro but its R3000 so...

Currently, GMMK PRO is the only stock option in SA. doesn’t look like anybody is bringing in Keychron Q series, but the way Keychron is adding to QMK/VIA functionality to it’s budget line, we might see stuff like the K8 PRO or even better, the new V series ( which is the budget plastic case version of the Q series…Look at new 75% Keychron V1) , come to SA.

Oh great Keyboard Nuts of Carbonite, I come seeking wisdom.

The cable on my Ducky One 2 TKL is driving me nuts. I've decided it's time for wireless. I'd love to do the whole custom build thing but I can't find any local suppliers for the bits I need. Is this an order from overseas and wait situation?
I'm happy to just buy a keyboard like a "normal" person but the right one doesn't seem to exist.

Required:
  • 80% or 75% layout. Could be convinced to go 65% though...
  • Cherry MX Speed (silver) switches or equivalent
  • Wireless

Nice to have but not critical:
  • A wheel or rotary knob
  • RGB

Don't care:
  • Hot-swappable
  • Macro capability
  • Caps. I have plenty (MX stems)

I think look at keychron as they should have most of what you want but you'd have to get the speed silvers separately, I don't know of anyone selling them locally

Okay thank you, what are your thoughts on the GMMK TKL Barebones vs GMMK Pro?

Maybe look at GMMK Barebones kits on Evetech, not the best company but the price is pretty okay. they might have Speed silvers but don't count on it.

You could also just get lighter springs on a Gateron Red or similar to make them similar to speed silvers, it won't be exactly the same but they will actuate much easier and quicker for that split-second advantage but it could be fatiguing if you bottom out really easily.

Yeah, I tend to smash my keys a bit. The shorter travel on the silvers has helped me develop a lighter touch. If I change to a switch with a longer travel I think I'd start hulk-smashing again.
Good suggestion nonetheless. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Okay cool, or alternatively just get heavier switches so you can hulk smash to your heart's content lmao.
