Keyboard Nut Thread

@K3NS31 The Redragons are Outemu Switch compatible.

Outemu switch legs are thinner than cherry/gateron, so you can make the gateron swtiches thinner (file), or buy Outemu-compatible switches that will fit in your board.
Thanks, but I ain't filing down 100 switches!
I'll use the switches for another keyboard. Once I pluck up the courage to try my own build. Soon.

Soooo,

Long time :)

I came across a shiny pink ID80 en figured I would slap some stuff on it to make it looke pretty. 3 keycap sets later I finally found a set that actually covers the layout properly. it is however somewhat kitten themed :)

ID80
TECSEE Purple Panda PME switches
Durock V2 modified stabs
Idobao Blue Cat MA PBT keycaps
Coiled cable in wrong shade of pink

I have a few more orders due for some more kit. Just need to sell off all my Ducky stuff first.

Cheers

Blue Cat really suits the pink case. Looks great dude!

Sooooo,

A while back I got a Razer Blackwidow 2013 from a friend because it was "broken" and meant for the bin. It had NAIL CLIPPINGS INSIDE.

Cleaned it with almost every household cleaning product I could find and it still smells like 5-year old Fanta orange. Desoldered every switch and opened them all and cleaned them inside out. (I don't like Cherry MX browns crunchy blue switches)

I'll spare you the images of what it looked like before it was clean-ish.

I sat around thinking what I could turn it into because nobody likes a keyboard without LEDs and this one happens to be the ONE Razer product without rainbow puke RGB all over it. After a few days of researching and scrolling geekhack trying to find out if it's possible to add LEDs to a non-chroma Blackwidow from 2013, I couldn't find much but a few people telling each other it's not worth it and just to buy a keyboard with LEDs instead.

Turns out, the PCBs on this Blackwidow and the Blackwidow with the green backlighting are identical, minus the LEDs and resistors for each.

Anyways, FFW a few months, I received my order of 1000x LEDs and picked up 200x CHR0805 390R resistors from Communica this morning, so this project can finally start.

It has Cherry Blues for now, until I find the patience to desolder them all again.

These resistors are STUPID tiny. Ignore the ugly soldering iron tip, my TS100 is at customs :)

1633187578169.png

RIP to my finger tips after soldering 109x of these

First white LED is functional (':

The plan after the LEDs are done is to get a keycap set that'll fit the non-standard bottom row and then paint the frame with Rustoleum Color Shift Galaxy Blue

I'll post an update in 3 weeks when I've finished the rest of the LEDs, wish me luck :D

Anyone here have Durock T1s and Glorious Pandas?

Just swopped out my Pandas for T1s on my ergodox daily driver.

And which one do you prefer?

To be 100% honest with you, I failed the blind tests.... 👀

They are extremely similar. I will use the T1s for a few months in this board and then compare again after they have been 'broken in'.

@Dire , after a few thousand words and a couple of hours of use, the difference is actually quite noticeable.

The T1s seem to have a shorter, sharper tactile feel. Similar to an instant 'click', rather than the rounded plunger effect the Pandas has.

I still prefer the Pandas, but this is a nice change of pace. Let's see how they break in.

Don't mind me, just showing off a board I modded for someone else on stream earlier today.

He asked that I don't replace the switches, but try to mod them. So they're lubed and jailhouse modded Outemu blues

Hmmm, it seem that you have managed to polish a turd! Good work Cujo. Jailhouse blues aren't half bad.

They have a surprisingly decent tactility to them. Not sure if they're worth the trouble with the plethora of tactile options we have today, but they were definitely fun and I would recommend them if you're ballin' on a budget

Has anyone on here bought from Taobao before? There's also a method of buying from superbuy.com where they act as an agent.

The reason I'm asking is because of the MW65 and MW75 on there. It's a super cheap gasket mounted kit. +- R1k

Superbuy link (Taobao is in Chinese):

From what I can see is the shipping costs start to escalate the price rather quickly.

So, to do this, I reckon a group buy would be the best way to go about this. Would there be a few people interested?
From what I can see is that it's reliable, I just haven't done it before.

Hey. Does anyone here have Outemu switch openers or some for sale? Otherwise please drop a link to an STL file for one, it would be appreciated. I have made my Redragon Kumara a Gucci tier keeb by modding the stabs, putting in foam and new Honey and Milk PBT keycaps. I just want to lube the Outemu Browns as of now, so I need a switch opener of some sorts. I will send images and sound tests later ;)

This keeb feels amazing after some mods btw! Would recommend this for someone on the budget looking for a mod challenge : )

Apparently you can use a Kailh switch opener to open them.

I am interested in the MW75 depending on the landed price

Thank you so much

Thanks for letting me know as well : )
What filament type did you use?
I used a brass opener, but when I was using 3D printed ones, I found that PLA was fine for temporary use.

All 3D printed openers are going to break, it's best to get a metal one if you're planning on opening switches regularly

Where do I buy one?

Ok thanks, but I would like to buy them locally haha. I do not want to wait 2 months for something to arrive
Amazon orders aren't slow.
I normally place one every 2>3 months.
Also bare in mind, Endu's opener is more a show piece than a day to day useable.
It's made out of full brass, which I believe is the only one out that there like that.

Oh yeah did not read the amazon part haha. Yeah they are fast, but expensive if you get express shipping haha.
