Keyboard Nut Thread

Was looking at KBD's 60% hotswap kits on ctrlshiftesc, although they haven't had much stock recently. Along with the NK boards and the options available straight from KBD.

What I'm looking for is your reliable 60%, tray mount, alu case, hotswap pcb, I'd likely lube and film some gat yellows with a kit from Keyboard Kulture.

Just difficult finding the most affordable/viable route to purchase tbh

I'm one of many waiting for rebeltech to get their bugs in check, apparently they stock ducky keycap sets now :D
As others have said, you won't get a kit from kbdfans for much less than you would at ctrlshiftesc tbh. No hassle and you are supporting a small local business.

Gat yellows is a great starting point. They are fantastic when lubed right, and rival switches 3x their price.

The tai hao and ducky caps from Rebeltech are good value as well. I have a set of each and no complaints. You can start with a cheaper ABS kit and buy a PBT kit you really want on a next group buy or when your finances recover.

We have a great variety available locally, and I urge you to support the local okes. We need to support them as much as possible so they keep their doors open and enable them to expand their selection.

On this note, I didn't pay attention to local pricing and paid more for importing some yellows myself than picking them up locally 😂

Hi everyone,
I know it's been a good few days since your orders should have left the door but as you know Durban is currently a mess - I have been doing what I can to join the community in protecting our homes and businesses.
Your orders were all finalized on Monday morning but due to the current situation, couriers are only accepting collections from a very select few (medical, that sort of thing). I will send your orders off as soon as I can but if you are over waiting and would prefer a refund, shoot me a message and we can arrange from there.

Just a quick question. Im looking to grab the keychron q1 when the pre order goes live and shipping it via aramex global shopper ( they dont ship directly to south africa any more). Whats the import tax and levy % look like for keebs. Tried to find the info online but found nothing concrete.

Last keyboard I imported was like %25, but you know how customs can be

Dude, don't stress at all. We are all aware of the shitshow that is going on there at the moment. First look after yourself and your community.

We can wait for stupid switch openers. Please focus your energy on keeping safe and sane.

As a Keyboard pleb is the BlackWidow Elite a good deal at R1499?

Yeah its an older keyboard, haven't tried it personally but only reviews are very good. Also has a wrist rest and media keys which are nice extras

For anybody interested, I'm selling a KBDfans DZ60 kit (no switches and keycaps).

So this week has been pretty shit and to top it all off I have contracted the rona, but at least some expensive plastic came in!

Made a post earlier, have 71 kailh box browns that id like to trade for some linear switches. Already have gat yellows and not really looking for mainstream cherry. Anyone got anything spicy for me ?

They are stock box browns haven't lubed them at all.

This may be very old news but might as well share since I only just discovered this. Bangood has a South Africa mail direct shipping option that allegedly charges no tax. So I bit the bullet and ordered my self a wow stick kit since they are like 40% off right now.

Will let the people here know if it is indeed tax free, have no reason to think otherwise.

Hi All just checking to see if anyone would be keen for an un built 60% with gateron yellows, cherry stabs and akko neon keycap set . will rather check here before actually posting. thanks.

Look what came today😍😍😍
First time trying linears, coming from a Rapoo blue switch cheapie, this feels like typing on butter!
Seems to be using Akko Carbon Retro unofficially. The space bar sounds thocky asf. This keyboard does not even need mods.

Just wanna confirm that CtrlShiftEsc is still shipping orders? I noticed their Instagram is offline and want to ensure that I'll receive my order :)

Best is to give Warren a call. I'm 100% sure he would've mentioned if there were any delays or hassles with in stock items.

I’ve just received an order from them today so pretty sure they’re still shipping out products.

Howsit everyone,

You should have all received your tracking numbers earlier today but if for some reason you didn't, please message me.
I ended up shipping your goods with TCG, so a large chunk of you will receive the openers tomorrow and everyone else should have them by Thursday. If you chose the JHB group-buy option, your goods have been shipped to @Random_Sheep - Please get in contact with him to arrange further. If you chose the CPT group-buy option, I will message you shortly.

A few disclaimers before you get the toys as the final product is not exactly what I had envisioned.
  • I was pressed for time due to setting an unrealistic deadline to develop a new product - including finishing a material that I have little experience with.
  • The high polish finish turned out to be EXTREMELY labour-intensive and very difficult to achieve consistently. I will be tumbling the future parts for a duller but more even finish.
  • Over the past few days, the parts have discolored and the bead-blasted surfaces have become patchy. I suspect it is to do with the chemical that I used when trying to clean the polishing residue off of the finished parts.
  • Tolerances are a bit loose on some of the parts as my soft jaws deformed during the Op2 run. Some new toys will resolve this.
  • Press-fitting magnets was a terrible decision as they are far more brittle than I originally anticipated... who would have guessed, duh... Future parts will have the magnets epoxied in place.
  • The packaging is a bit hacky. I originally tried to outsource the boxes but after that failed, I resorted to making a brass stamp and debossing the boxes I could find with my super janky hand press.

I have ordered some new equipment and as soon as it arrives, I will begin work on resolving the above issues.
Hopefully, this is not doing more harm than good here but if you are unhappy with what you receive, shoot me a message and we can discuss further, otherwise, enjoy!
