Keyboard Nut Thread

So an update on my Royal Kludge that I ordered.

Banggood fucked me on the shipping and its going via SAPO, stuck at customs for 45 days so far.

Last time I order from them, emailed them to ask why it was going via SAPO when I paid R300 for shipping and basically got told "not our problem, we see no issues, wait for the post office"

That's Banggood for you!

Anyone jumping on NK's Milkshake GB?

Yeah, never use the express shipping option. SA Direct Mail seems to be the most consistent

@Mike Please don't mention that here.

I'm in a very sensitive place right now regarding that milkshake gb. Like I can't even deal right now. I want that so bad but from NovelKeys it works out to around 4k :(

For those who are wondering:

It includes a carry case and a usb cable. The thing that gets me is the switches.

If you came here for us to convince you not to buy it you, you came to the wrong place, order it, I know you want to 🤪

I mean for the money, it's an incredible deal 🤷🏻‍♂️ my Tofu-esque cost me almost as much, just not all-at-once. I mean a GMK set will set you back more than half that!

On the note of keycaps, I am so fucking hyped for KAM SuperUser, haven't been so hyped for any keeb bits since GMK Phosphorus

😂😂😂

So with that in mind, do any of our resident 3d printing expects have ideas on a decent filament colour to match that set? Apparently navy isn't a colour that's easily available locally 😟 White prints never look great long term

Oh no ways a local area of r/mechanicalkeyboards :p

I'm rocking a customised Filco with a new hand-painted Japanese cover and double shot PBT SA Filco Keycaps. Plus some vanity caps.

Actually starting a custom keycap side gig with a friend (and have been "starting up" for 3 years :p - eish.)

Here are some requested pics:

First the board. Then some glass, custom keycaps. Definitely only ones like it in the world. Next are some pics of 3D printed ones for fun.

We need pics!!

The optical switches on the ASUS TUF K7 I purchased actually do it for me. I prefer them over the Cherry MX Speeds on the K95 Plat I sold to my friend. Sold that keeb for a bargain and used the money to pay nearly retail for this one; yet I'm not disappointed in my choice.

Yeah, the Huntsman TE changed my life with its switches, just wish it was quieter and heavier on the actuation.

Hey guys, been lurking here and enjoying the awesome boards, of which now I want to build one of my own :D

I've got some pieces of wood that I want to get it CNC'ed and use it as a keeb case

Does anyone know of an affordable CNC milling place in JHB?

Custom polycarb case is the dream 💔

Who's gonna get us a quote?

So I recently got a Redragon Mahoraga for use at work as I couldn't handle the full size rubber dome Genius anymore. Was the cheapest wireless/wired mechanical that I could find locally.

What I realized today is that it seems to have hot-swappable switches. Is Evetech (I know) my best bet for getting switches locally?

I see they sell the Glorious switches. Would like to get some browns as that is what I use at home. These silent reds aren't terrible, good for the office, but I miss using browns.

Also curious about the glorious panda switches but I don't think they are retail yet?

They are available for retail but Evetech has no current plans on bringing them in.

And yes Evetech is the only local stockist of switches. You can buy some switches from bang good. I'm pretty sure the delivery time is the same as Evetech

Cool thanks. On another note is a switch puller required or can a plan be made with small flat head screwdrivers? If not, are there any local suppliers of switch pullers, I'm guessing not if we only have one store selling switches.

Hey guys, thinking of switching from the Logitech G513 to the G815. Anyone used both and can provide some advise ? Also concerned I might miss the wrist rest

Haven't used G513 but absolutely LOOOVE the G815. It's so low you will not miss the wrist-rest.
I'm done hunting for keyboards because of it.

Do you have the clicky, linear or tactile?

Moved some caps from the Ducky Zero over to the Ducky SF and I'm really liking it:

Hopefully I get my keyboard sometime November.

Update so far:

Arrival at inward office of exchange
JIMC A

What happened to all the keyboards in SA, all I want is something that doesn't cost more than a budget GPU with tactile switches, HyperX Core Origins with Aqua switches? nope, MK730 with Brown switches, nope.

It's either blue or red or more than R2000.

Hi guys!

With my lack of travel this year all motivation was lost to complete my Iris builds. I've been searching for an alternative build to scratch the itch the past few weeks, and finally found something this morning...

I already sent a request for a few quotes on laser cutting a stainless steel plate and getting the wood laser cut. I have everything else I need ready to go. This will be a handwire TKL.

I am undecided on which wood to use and if I am going Kailh Box Navy or Gateron yellow. I might just go with hotswop sockets, but that complicates the 'handwire' build slightly.

Thoughts and opinions welcome.
