So, as some of you might know, I’ve been rather active on Carbonite as of late as I finally saved up enough money to start building my very first dedicated gaming rig with the help of my bud, @Kamikaze . Special thank you to everyone who sold me stuff with my low iTrader score.

Previously, I had been using my Dad’s trusty old’ ASUS ROG GL553VD for yonks hey, shout out to him as well. If I had to win, I would probably dedicate the prized gaming rig to him as he also needs an overhaul.

What is my worst PC gaming moment with your current set-up?

Shortly after having completed my build with the aid of numerous YouTube videos, I was in the process of setting up all my software such as the BIOS and installing all of the much-needed software such as Steam etc. Bear in mind, I recently got a puppy as well and he’s a very clumsy boy. Anyway, shortly after having completed the setup and with Dota 2 freshly installed, I was ready to rock safe-lane as a support as I usually do (not all heroes wear capes hey ). Now, unfortunately, my chassis is on the floor as I need to double my personal desk as a work from home (WFH) station due to COVID-19. Whilst jamming my beloved Dota 2 (inbox for tips), my pup, Harvey, came waltzing in with not a care in the world and, without me noticing, had got caught up in my headset cable in the case. Before I knew it, he suddenly got a burst of energy and decided to charge towards the front door. In doing so, he yanked the entire case, along with my head, and as a result, the game completely froze and the system had become unresponsive. I had assumed that this was the end and I was about to murder my dog (no jokes)...

Harvey, none-the-wiser, began yelping as he couldn’t run due to being tangled and I could think about was the all the money I had just spent on my bloody gaming rig. Not ideal. After having helped my poor pup out, I began looking at the PC to see what was up. Although I never got the root-cause, the system still works fine and I’m a happy-chappy. So yeah, that’s my worst PC gaming moment with my current set-up.

What have I learnt?
  • Don’t get a puppy (just kidding)
  • Put your case on a sturdy surface off the ground
  • Cables are your enemy
  • Don’t always buy new because Carbonite has some amazing deals like my ASUS ROG Z390-H combo.

Meet Patchwerk - The Franken PC

Patch is a true abomination of the PC Master Race.

He has had:
* his HDD's frozen for attempted data recovery
* his GPU baked to re-flow the solder to wake it back up from the dead (yes it actually works, but fumes ...)
* instant water-cooling installed from sitting next to an open sliding door in the rainy season. (bzzzt, RIP PSU)

Patch loves:
* the D. Key that is, sticking it as often as possible. (have fun counter strafing the whole time just to try running straight) - or unplug the KB mid-round to hopefully reset the problem
* double clicking the RMB and not holding it down, making for some awkward ADS head-shot attempts.
* spazzing out when the GPU runs out of VRAM (that's why we don't send the Mrs to buy a new GPU, she apparently thought the "ti" part was not that important).

Patch hates:
* game settings above the bare minimum
* being overclocked - having a H-series MOBO and non-K series CPU helps.

Patch's ambitions:
* to one day behold a AAA title in all its glory, having missed out on BF1 and BF4 and Borderlands 2..., it can run Crysis, from 2007.

When I came across this competition it actually got me thinking about what my worst gaming experience was with my current setup.

It was Heritage Day last year (24 Sept 2019) and I was getting my last good gaming session in before I packed up for Finals. I was doing side quest in and around Velen in The Witcher 3 going down rabbit hole after rabbit hole. Each side quest giving more insight into the background of the area and how the villages reacted to the invasion of the two armies. Discovering who The Bloody Baron was and how his iron fist took hold of the now wasted land. An elderly man explained "No Man’s Land. The locals call it. This is because” ... Poof! My system switched off. Me so deeply invested in the game jumped up in a panic.

I then proceeded to try and boot it up but to no avail. I gave the PC 5 minutes to cool down which also gave me time to calm myself down. Now I know my way around a computer but after I cleaned the PC and re-seated all cables I tried again. Still Nothing. This is as far as my expertise could carry me so I turned to the only community I know loves there PC as much as I do. Most of us here suffers from the "CUD" and that is how I knew they were more than capable of helping me. I explained what had happened and with no hesitation I started to get responses to help determine the problem. It was sorted in less than 3 hours in this thread (LINK)

After this ordeal and figuring out that it’s not my PC that died but my Power supply. I stuck around this site as there is always someone who needs help. Since then I have not only learned a lot from this Community but I also thoroughly enjoy the Friday threads that pops up. It’s quite entertaining. So, this was my worst gaming experiences ever. Let’s hope it stays that way. If I ever have a problem, I know who to turn to.

My worst experience with my gaming setup started a few months ago during level 5 lockdown when my PSU and motherboard died on my pc ( couldn't replace it as it was a HP elitedesk with a propriety motherboard and finding a 4th gen board is almost impossible ). Not a problem as I can still play on my some of my games on my console. fast-forward to a week before level 4 was implemented and my Xbox one died. In the meantime to play low end games I had to use my work MacBook pro mid 2012 13 inch connected to my monitor ( with Windows 10 boot camp.

Not a problem as I wanted to get that upgrade kit from Evetech. Got the kit and now I need a PSU. Saw a great deal on Raru (use to purchase from them 2 - 3 years ago so I thought that the shipping process was the same). Waited and waited for weeks and still no response from Raru and my order remained in progress ( and still remains in progress today ). I couldn't wait any more so last week I purchased a PSU from Computer mania. worked great for about a few weeks and then died on me. Got a replacement power supply... I hope this lasts.

My worst gaming experience:
>Beginning of this year we had the idea of immigrating
>Ended up selling my newly bought gaming PC which was not even 3 months old
>Bought a laptop that can barely run anything
>Covid-19 comes around
>And now we are stuck here until who knows when

My current setup:

Always upgrade bit by bit and always had 970 then got a 2nd hand GPU 980(not from Carbonite). Plugged it in and heard like something fizzing then saw 1 of black blocks on GPU catch a small flame.

Card was not working no more after that :(

I love my baby and this is my current setup, I would say one of the worst gaming moments include feeling the overheating beneath my fingertips and wondering if I should keep trusting my fans and keep going or hoping I can pause the game so I can exit altogether and my baby can have a breather , another not so fun gaming moment comes from smelling smoke that could be from a braai or someones cooking and my heart stopping as I try sniff around my keyboard and wonder if it's my laptop giving up on me o_O like I said before I love my baby but an upgrade would be really awesome and definitely take my gaming experience to the next level

Started playing Skyrim early morning, at first ambling along the plains, mostly discovering places (making fast travel easier down the line) and moving on. Killing wolves, clearing out bandit camps, catching butterflies and torchbugs.

There it is, finally a cave that seems like it might be interesting, so I enter. At this point I just need to mention this is the first save / auto save in nine of ten hours of gameplay.

So I enter, clear about half the cave, game bugs out – memory issues. No worries, I entered the cave not five minutes ago, thank the divines for that. Fire up Skyrim again, load game... NOPE HAHA I AM CORRUPT BOI!!

My current rig, rigged (lol) up from bits here and pieces there. Parts scavenged from my old Bulldozer (yes I was an unlucky fool)

My worst gaming moment is happening right now.
Only have a laptop, but the power's out right now. When my laptop is running on battery the gpu and cpu clocks run very low, so I can barely run the menu past 40fps. Added to that I need the laptop to keep me warm since I can't use heaters.

I'm posting from my phone, don't judge.

My worst moment was about 3/4 years ago. It was a while back so I'm slightly rusty on the details but I stayed in an outlying town to where I am now, and was playing the best game in the world, Dota 2.

Everything was going well, I had a large blue packet of Doritos, it was the weekend and things were just too good to be true, especially as I was playing with random people on the net.

Fast forward a few minutes, the game hangs where it was a few minutes ago an upwards trend of luck, this was the anticlimax although I would only know if afterwards. I frantically try diagnose the fault. If you DC too long you need to reconnect to the game and if you really take long you get kicked from the game and get out in a low priority pool.

I restore the connection by rebooting the powerline adapter after rebooting the router, get back into the game though realise I must've been disconnected for too long. I was put in a low priority pool and my winning streak was lost. The whole weekend turned out to go downhill from there. I actually remember the weekend because of the other sad things that occurred afterwards. Though it was one of those times you just rather forget.

Not a very exciting story but that was it, the end of a good few games but also the end of something personal for me on a weekend a few years ago.

Trying to upload pic from phone...

My worst gaming experience was probably playing Counter-strike global offensive where the game was going perfectly well and the score was 13-11 and we needed 3 more rounds to win, and then my internet started acting up and by the time i got back in it was 13-15 and well.... We lost...

This is my current setup

I'd thought that this ended over the weekend. Glad i checked!

This is my (wounded) Predator, a 17" dell studio turned gaming laptop:

The back story is that after only two years of ownership I spilled an amarula drink on the keyboard(dont drink and game they say...). It leached right through the keyboard onto the mobo and into the disc drive. I had to disassemble the laptop and clean all the components. The optical drive never made it out alive. The keyboard was cleaned many times, even went through the dish washer but alas some keys like shift, insert or z would trigger without being pressed.

So now it has e nicer backlit redragon keyboard permanently connected. But after two years(and no drink spills 😁), this keyboard is also starting with the phantom keypresses...

When I was about to enter my teens and I had very illicit and intermittent access to the sultry voice of Duke Nukem (in 3D) and all the blood and babes that entails hidden away on the family PC.

Try to remember for a boy with no internet access in the 90’s those pixelated boobies meant the world.

One day my sister found the game and decided to activate the parental lock and then conveniently “forgot” the code…

I couldn’t even attempt a reinstallation because I didn’t own the game.

Now imagine the utter futility of a young boy on the cusp of manhood, sitting in the dark with only the hum of a CRT, entering code after code until the light of day brings with it the shame of defeat.

With eyes red from the glare of the Cathode Rays and a body weary from battle, our hero rests his head, but it does not rest easy. Forever burdened with the knowledge that he had a treasure chest that he could possibly open, if only he had the key…

Some nights he can still hear it. The phrase that use to bring him such joy now only symbolized that which he could not attain.

“Shake it baby…” and shook him it did.

The closest thing I have to a gaming setup is a Raspberry Pi that I have for electronic projects. It can play Duke Nukem 3D… XP

My worst PC gaming moment was when my teenage sons installed Fornite on my PC (the only one in the house) after their PS4 broke, got all amped to play, loaded the game and it just kept crashing. Turned out my specs are way below the requirements... my PC is now officially a POTATO (a sweet but very useless potato in the gaming universe).

One of my worst PC gaming moments was when I took my freshly built PC to a weekend LAN and after setup it didn't want to boot (this includes the saga of my motherboard RMA journey)

For my current setup, which is a loving accumulative upgrade over the years of the core parts from the LAN PC, it is the annoying whole system freezes that still occasionally occur ever since I first built it in 2015.

When you place a drink on top of your PC so its out the way. A wild cat appears on top of the PC as well as its warm and this happens mid fight in COD. Cat thinks the glass is a fixed object and rubs against it pushing it over onto your peripherals making you rethink the meaning of life.

What is your worst PC gaming moment with your current set-up?

Great question, thank you for asking.

This will probably be the fact that I'm unable to enjoy high graphical games with my friends for example Warzone, Escape from Tarkov, Ark due to my Pc not being powerful enough. Its pretty sad to see them enjoying the game and i can't play it... I've got a baby on the way aswell so upgrading my system in the near future is not an option.

I've never won anything in my life but if I win this computer I'll donate mine to someone that's in need.

GG✌

PS: Picture of the setup in the following link, couldnt get the option just to add a picture.

Would definitely say the moment I saved enough money as a teenager by washing cars, doing chores to gaining better grades to finally afford the Microsoft SideWinder X4. Found out the hard way it'll in fact break after day one if hot tea is spilled all over it. Pretty sure I shed a tear that day!

My mistake.
I interpreted the wording below as it ending on the 15th.
It is a little confusing.

The competition runs from 02 June 2020 to 15 June 2020, both dates inclusive.

This tells me cool, competition runs from 00:01 02/06 to 23:59 15/06.

However.

No entries will be accepted after midnight on 16 June 2020

This tells me that the 16th is included, as midnight of June 16 would be 12pm tonight, as @Ageless_ZA stated.

Anyways, doesn't really matter. I say as long as the post is not locked, or someone posts "Ok, officially closed, no more entries", let whomever wants to enter, enter :)

My worst gaming experiences involving my setup are the following:

Playing barefoot on hot summer days... Hard intense gaming often makes me sweaty and I remember one time resting my foot on the multisocket plug... I got excited playing DOTA at the time and kicked the socket in such a way that I got the biggest shock of my life LMAO.. Lasted a good 10 - 15 seconds with a stiff leg.

These days the only bad experiences I get are latency related where I get throttled to within an inch of life due to light downloads and this pisses me off to no end!! Can't wait for fibre to be rolled out in my area!

Personally, I've always regarded midnight as the start of/part the current day.
So midnight tonight in my mind would be the 17th.

Also, if you wonder whether tonight’s midnight really belong to tonight – or to tomorrow morning: astronomers and the military use a system in which midnight is 0 hours. In that system, tonight’s midnight is the first moment of tomorrow. But as for the rest of us – there’s no official answer. That’s why airlines always schedule flights for 11:59 p.m. or 12:01 a.m. – never midnight.

Anyway, to sum up:
1) Entries posted today are still accepted.
2) I probably pissed off @Ageless_ZA and subsequently committed forum suicide, so I'll see myself out.

My worst moment while gaming on pc was when me and my brother was sharing a pc and I accidently over wrote he's save file on GTA.

So my worst gaming experience literally happened last night in warzone😂.

I was playing warzone Duos with a mate of mine and we’re going on a rampage about 8 kills each and counting. This is only possible because all of the engagements thus far have been in a few meters. So my laptops, blurry, sorry excuse for a frame is okay.

however, this all changed where we were in the 4th last circle and we had to cross the airport runway. While running, I saw some scope glint in the distance..... I try to take aim at the source of the glint then BANG!!! We both got dropped.

Turns out, trying to aim at something far off in the distance with my potato graphics is like trying to thread a needle with soup in your eyes.... Impossible and frustrating XD
