What is your worst PC gaming moment with your current set-up?

-I decided to clean my PC out properly and noticed there was some kind of blue residue on my GPUs back plate. Turns out my CPU water block had a very slow leak leaking onto my GPU. Luckily no serious damage but was def a scary moment when I realized what was going on!

So I pull out my old laptop, and try to log on but there's now a update that needs to be done.... Yerrrrr... Eventually I get in and it turns out we ended up loosing. Turns out my motherboard got fried to oblivion and now I need a new pc.....

My worse gaming experience is watching my baby brother play games, since water pump spring a leak.
All components in rice now hoping for the best :)

Looking for big enough container for my MOBO now hehehehe, will see if rice is the magic everyone speak of when it comes 2 liquid damage.

This is my 1st Gen i5, case took some damage recently when I got frustrated that I can't upgrade the RAM above 10GB!

The Asus RX570 is a loan from a friend who failed at mining eth, every update requires patching the card which is a massive pain!

Worst moment beyond those is Warzone won't run, Apex gets about 30 FPS sadly which is what I blame my bad aim on :)

The absolute garbage Tier PSU that couldn't reliably power on a 1060, constantly having to power off and on and HOPE this time would work, then the random crashes :)

My "professional" HDD mounting and cable management :)

My "huge" 17" VGA monitor feat. dead pixels along the bottom :)

With Free time on my hands eagerly wanting to game I Enthusiastically stayed up till midnight to start the download of Apex Legends on my Laptop to make use of my Night Owl Data 😁.

23GB later and about 2 hours and 30 minutes of waiting the game finally downloaded and installed. As I Launched the game with excitement waiting for it to load after creating an Origin account it loads the menu, I literally couldn’t wait and instantly pressed “Ready”, selected a character and its loading.

All that enthusiasm quickly faded away when the game started and it literally stutters at every movement basically unplayable even with all settings on the lowest. Unfortunately, my Intel HD graphics just can’t keep up. 10-15 FPS 😅 while the laptop sounds like a jet about to take off.

So left game less currently and saving up to buy a gaming PC or hopefully win this one 👀.

What is your worst PC gaming moment with your current set-up?

I was working in the front office while the owner of the house was busy with maintenance and tiling in the bathroom next to my gaming room, they neglected to close the door, when I got back to my room, everything was covered in tile dust as they were cutting tiles in the bathroom...

This was the result.... My worst day ever.... 4hrs of cleaning and no gaming... Playing my first game afterwards was nerve wrecking and my worst gaming experience thus far...

My first ITX build included a weeks worth of research and over a month of looking and waiting parts to arrive.

The build took about 5 hours because of cable management and, what appeared to be, "incompatible" parts and the fact that I bought a CPU and a different fan for it.

First, there were no instructions and it was not clear-cut.

Second, I needed a wrench, which I did not have, so I had to go borrow one.

Third, it appeared one of the board heatsinks were blocking the CPU heatsink from clamping down. I had watched too many yt videos innmy life which led me to think I would have to do some ridiculous filing down, sawing, etc. to get this working.

Fourth, it appeared to be one of the chips at the back of the board that was preventing the screw and nut from making contact and allowing me to clamp it down as needed.

I finally got it down - it appeared the plastic hole, where the screw would pass through, needed to be shaved down a little.

Fifth pain in the neck. This time it was my own fault, and a silly one.
After Input everything in the case and all cable management and positioning of components were in place I noticed I forgot to put in the motherboard backplate (i/o shield) - many PCs were built in my life without this issue.

Sixth, and lastly. Last 4 people in Apex and my PC overheated and shutdown. Found out that while I was putting the heatsink on and off the CPU the whole time I forgot to reapply the thermalpaste. This led to improper spreading and therefore overheating.

I was a broken man.

The above took over 5 hours to figure out/get sorted and I thought I would have to burn the PC and my house down along with it.

Was a painful experience which led to a lot of sweating and weird, angry conversations with, or at, my PC - but we're friends now.
Temp setup until wood from builders arrives. What's another weeks, right.

Not having a pc, i saved up over 2 years and bought all second hand parts in hope of building first rig, all in working condition tested by friend, last component to buy was psu, started up bios fine then fried out, psu had preexisting voltage problem so fried everything, so have never had true pc gaming experience, sold everything and now my gaming experience Is unfortionately confined to the limits of 30fps console keyboard and mouse gaming:)

Struggling to upload picture cause I'm on mobile and have no clue how, will try figure it out

Realising that I'm basically stuck on 1080p due to the insane prices of new components that will allow buttery smoothness at 1440p.
On the gaming note, when my HX750 decided to just die randomly while I was gaming, less than a year after losing my 850w to Eskom. I shat myself initially thinking my less than week old asus mobo or ryzen cpu had decided to peg.

So this is my rig at current status.
I lost my income since beginning of lockdown (I manage a lodge) so I don't have funds to complete it. Now I'm side hustling to help support my fiance so that all the pressure isn't on her and to put some away for my build.
Only gaming I'm currently doing is on my Xbox

My worst experience is living it each day, this is my build in attached image. That should speak for itself. Trying to save up to upgrade but in times like these everything is not possible. Thank you Covid-19

So during my mining days I was quite amazed at how people managed to get their bios's flashed to optimisme mining. Back in the days my uncle used to buy ati cards and flash them to better versions aswel.

I got inspired by that and started reading up on how I could boost my pc without breaking the bank. After some research I realised that my Asus Z170 Maximus XIII was high end enough to possibly handle the 9th Gen Cpu's. With a bit of fiddling of course.

I bought a 9400f and proceeded to read up on and modify my motherboard bios to support 9th gen processors. Luckily I had a bios flasher on hand and the process was quite stressful. As I put the final parts back in I read the last part of a forum post that showed a diagram of me needing to block out and link dots on the CPU. It's simple, I thought.

Eventually managed to link the CPU dots with electric ink and used electric tape to block out the other dots. This took just over 2 hours since I have quite large hands.

I pop the CPU in, power my pc on and wait in suspense. Almost immediately after powering it on I was greeted by a loud pinging noise from the motherboard. I pulled the power cable immediately and took a step back to observe if anything had died.

I decided to double check everything. Reflashed my bios. Removed all the tape and electrical ink from the CPU and redid it. This time though I saw that my initial tape and ink was off by one. I started shaking as I might have just killed my CPU and/or motherboard in this process.

After carefully inspecting that everything was as it should be I decided to pop it back in for a final test run.

Lo and behold she boots up. My shaking subsided and she was purring like a beast. I'd imagine if it were not for all the protection built in to this beefy motherboard it would've gone a whole other way.

Worst Moment for me was installing a new radiator on my newly finished build playing forza horizon 4 for the first time so I made the moment "special" and I instead of plugging the system into my monitor plugged it into a 4k t.v. that is the main t.v. in the house and had an amazing day playing forza feeling almost like a kid again all is good until the next morning I come to find my cpu had overheated because I didn't screw the heat sink onto the cpu properly causing hot spots :( at the same time as finding out my radiator was faulty and had a small leak and leaked out causing further overheating and thus the death of my poor cpu... I have rebuilt the system now without an AIO because PTSD. Entering to possibly win the system for my girlfriend who after 2 years of being together is finally getting into gaming and I want to ride the dream as long as possible :D My Current Setup:

My Worst PC Gaming Moment is that I do not have any PC gaming moments anymore since my 9 Year old Daughter has taken over complete control of my PC a long with my Modern Warfare account, what makes it even worse is that I think my KD ratio has actually increased since she has taken over..... How I wish to be able to play games on my PC again....

My worst gaming experience:
One of my friends convinced me to play Rust during lockdown, got really into it joined a few community servers till we found one with enough action for noobs. Kinda got okayish at the game. Ended up playing on a server for 3 days straight, time was flying by. We amassed soooo much resources and weapons. Logged off for about half an hour and came back to our lovely base only to find a lone door way standing on a single foundation block. Our whole base gone with just a doorway to remember it by. 3 DAYS OF SLAVING.

And thats the story of why I don't play Rust anymore xD

On a positive note: His birthday fell within the beginning stages on lockdown and myself, @Ericw, his girlfriend and a few other campus friends through him a virtual party on the game, playing the instruments in the tune of 'happy birthday' and letting off fireworks, it was great. If you ever need a mariachi band in game ;)
