IT Field Service Technician

Job Purpose

The Field Service IT Technicians role is to support the stable operation of the clients’ computer networks. This includes planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links while ensuring minimal network downtime. This person will also diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software network problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and support where required.

The role will include:
Providing service and customer support during site visits.
Managing all on site installation, repair, maintenance and test tasks.
Diagnosing errors or technical problems, determining and implementing proper solutions.

Responsibilities

Produce timely and detailed reports.
Document processes.
Follow all company’s procedures and protocols.
Cooperate with Support Desk and Retail Support team and share information across the organisation.
Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations.
Build positive relationships with customers.

Essential:
Minimum matric/grade 12 qualification
IT qualification - N+ and A+ qualification
Valid driver’s license + Own Vehicle
Ability to travel extensively
Ability to work under pressure in difficult environments

Proven field service experience in:
Network support
Point of sale support – Micros and GAAP
CAT 5 & 6 cabling installation
CCTV installations
Proven experience to troubleshoot, test, repair and service technical equipment
Desirable:
  • 2 – 3 years relevant experience in items listed above
Knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Windows bases operating systems, both server and desk top
  • Microsoft Office applications which must include Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Micros and GAAP Systems
Understanding of SLA adherence
Basic Protocols - TCP/IP, FTP, HTTP
Hardware understanding – routers, servers, workstations, switches, printers etc.
Remote Desktop or similar pc remote tools
Security, backup and restores
An understanding of the LAN and WAN environment
Supporting end users across multiple sites/locations
Internet connectivity - ADSL, Diginet, VPN knowledge

Skills:
MS Office
Ability to communicate on all levels - English literacy (written and spoken)

Other:
Will be required to move IT equipment
Will be required to perform standby and overtime duties from time to time
May be required to work shifts from time to time

Package:
R13 500 (Depending on experience)
