I've been having some issues with my pc for a while. Basically I started seeing weird distortion on my screen a couple months back. Recently my pc randomly restarts during cold boots but I don't get blue screened. Could it possibly be my psu or is my gpu failing ?

Any advice would help me out and my wallet lol.

distortions sounds like gpu memory artifacts (rainbow pixelations on the screen).

What gpu? and how old is it?

Older gpu's tend to have oil seep from the memory pads cooling the ram chips. This oil and some dust could make a conductive material that will cause artifacts on the memory chippies

So my psu is probably 6years old

Gpu 2018 - gigabyte 1060gb

Its not rainbow pixels but more like the screen is cutting?? Its only when I'm on YouTube or playing any videos on vlc

Scratch that, rather check your gpu voltages etc in HWInfo and see if it's reporting correctly or if you see massive drops.
My PC crashes when my GPU memory clock drops randomly under light gpu load, but heavy cpu load, like working and watching youtube videos. (entirely different gpu, but might be worth checking out)

ok, that should not pull too much power from your PSU, so might just be that your GPU is faulty.
Only way to be certain is to test your GPU in another system and to test your system with another gpu.

what is the brand and model of your PSU? if it is something like a corsair vs it may be the PSU.

how would I check? if its the right voltage

This is HWMonitor. @Thanatos_ZA's advice/screenshot is from HWiNFO, they are different programs. HWiNFO shows a buttload more info than HWMonitor.
Open up the sensors panel and scroll down till you see something like this

So if you have a look at the Memory Voltage and Memory Clock on mine the min values indicate massive drops which shouldn't be happening even when idle and this is causing the crashes in my case.

. I don't know why my layout is a bit different.

If this is a clean install of HWiNFO and you have not hidden any fields, then I would say it looks like your GPU doesn't report memory voltage (not unusual with older cards).

But maybe keep HWiNFO open in the background while you are using your PC for a while, and see if the voltages that you can see, go very high or very low while artifacts/distortion are happening.

there should be a sticker on the psu stating the wattage, it is probably on the bottom.

Wanted to thank all of you for helping me out. Really appreciate it. :giggle:

So I took my pc to a pc shop because I can't be stressing on my birthday whether or not my GPU is dying out. But looks like it is sorted out.

Hopefully, I won't be posting this problem again:)(y)
