Hey all

I've been out of the CUD game for a loooong time. 5 years at least. Back then 4k screens were very expensive and the technology has probably improved a lot, though I'm basically in the dark as to what the scene is like nowadays.

Before I do a deep dive into researching different models and specs and things, I just wanted to get some opinions on whether a 4k screen is worth the dough? I'm aware there are other options like 2k ultrawide and such, of which I know equally nothing. Is there perhaps something with better bang-for-buck than 4k?

Note: I'm not aiming to game at 4k (since I don't even game that much anymore) - it's more for productivity, having next-level display quality and maybe some photo editing etc. Also my budget isn't sky high, but I'd be willing to shell out if it's a worthwhile upgrade. For reference this is the monitor I have at the moment, which is pretty old now.

Cheers and thanks
CC

Umm....I think you better take a look at pricing of what's currently out there before you ask this question. Given you mentioned a budget you will probably find yourself very limited by that given the limited availability and increased pricing of everything this year. Gone are the days of those cheap 4K Samsungs you are probably thinking of.

In fact I suspect you will only get a Hz increase over what you currently have, not an actual visual quality increase. Though that is of course depending on how limited your budget really is.

Yeah, I had a look online over the weekend and came to the general conclusion that the ratio of improvement over what I have to the money I'd have to spend will probably make it not worth it. I still have to go have a look at 4k screens in store but unless I'm blown away by how they look I'll likely not shell out for one. I thought prices would have gone down since a few years ago but it seems to be the opposite unfortunately...
