I was not looking for a project build and this just kinda happened.

Reason for the name: "fake" / imposter TRX40 (the system cost less than a TRX40 board would)

Current specs:
Case: Coolermaster Cosmos II
PSU: Coolermaster V850 Modular Gold
Motherboard: Intel S2600IP Workstation
CPU: Dual Xeon E5-2680v2 under a set of Coolermaster 212 RGB Black
RAM: 64GB ECC RAM @ 1333
GPU: Asus GTX680 Direct CU 2GB
Boot: 2x WD Green 120GB SSD Raid0
Scratch: 1x Liteon 256GB NVMe
Storage: 2x 1TB HDD (a Seagate and a Samsung) Raid0
Intake: 1x200mm Coolermaster, 1x120mm Coolermaster
Exhaust1: 1x140mm Coolermaster
Exhaust2: 3x120mm Coolermaster SF120R aRGB
Coolers: 2x120mm Coolermaster RGB

Keyboard: Coolermaster Quickfire XTi RGB
Mouse: Coolermaster MM530 RGB

Job #1 was to get them threaded goodness, otherwise there would be no clues in the name. Dual Xeon E5-2680's

Next job was to get some proper cooling, those server ones are fit for purpose (so not mine). And RGB!

Edit: this motherboard is HUUUUUGE (15"x14.2")

Next job: find a case that can fit this behemoth. Longest wait of the whole build before I found something in the form of a customized Cosmos II (it was all there).

Next job: clean the damn case. I used clean green and a shower head with a brush.

Disassembled:

Cleaned and painted. Also removed all filters that I could find for airflow.

Next big one, I had to drill some holes for the standoffs as the board is way bigger than XL-ATX. First used a smaller dril and then piloted it with a smaller screw and than the standoffs.

Reassembly and fitment testing:

Final step to being usable was setting up the storage (courtesy of a PIF and a cheap NVMe). Also decided to go with blue rather than green, and I kind of like the result:

What GPU? I can only dream of that C/T count😂

Asus GTX680 DirectCU - the thing is huuuge, so it looks great being blacked out and fitted with the rest.

I do need to move the NVMe/PCIe card as it is too close to the GPU and is getting a bit toasty.

But I am impressed, the thing runs like a champ.

tie this with a 1080Ti and it would be awesome😅

cant believe i didn't see your build thread till now, it really came out awesome!

so happy to see my board and ram put to proper use. cant believe you found a case to fit everything!

Had to mod it quite a bit to get things in. The SATA power cables are not long enough to run behind the tray and I still need to do some cable management too. Working on it today - will give it some beans with Folding@Home if they decide to bless me with a Work Unit today.

@Valheru this build log is amazing!

Any mods left?
Thanks man.

In terms of mods - I don't have the balls or knowledge to hack the Bios for an all-core turbo unlock like you would get on the V3's. And maybe RGB it up a bit more, the controller I got does not fit the pinout on the case control panel (Cosmos vs C700).

you should add "longest wait for deal of century", otherwise you would have had a case long ago in the form of a Thermaltake W100 :)

Has "some" miles on it?

hahaha, if it was mine you know it would need a DEEEEEP clean :p

nah, meant new :)

but also, I could have actually tried to source you a Lian-Li D8000, with some "miles" on it :D

Wow, I never knew such a thing existed. The thing is huge. Has that true "WTF is that!?" factor.
