Just saw these videos. This is some surprisingly good value for midrange 1080p gaming, the i5 11400F is only R3499 compared to R6799 for the 5600X (both CPUs are 6 core 12 thread).

Stock i5 11400F vs overclocked 4.7GHz Ryzen 5 5600X at 1080p.

It is also quite a bit ahead of the previous value king, the Ryzen 5 3600 (retailing at R3999), too.

This is good value for someone looking to move on from a 4 core build like 6700k or 7700k that would be struggling in more CPU intensive games.
Pair it with a cheap Gigabyte B560M (R2299) and 16Gb 3200MHz GSkill Ripjaws (R1869) and it comes in at R7667, only R868 more than just a 5600X.

The 11400f is a steal, much like the 10400f was.

I am interested to see AMD's response though (maybe a similarly priced 5600).

I just despise the platform at the moment due to the fact that the 'cheap' LGA1200 motherboards are - simply put - garbage.

And if you want to upgrade down the line, your only path would be 11700K/11900K, whereas a B550 board now could set you up for a 5900X or a 5950X in the future.

Say I should do this from a 6600k for xplane, Asetto corsa, dcs and soon msfs 2020, you think it would go nice (playing in vr)

If you can get it at the correct price, and you need a CPU right now, then it's not a bad idea. But as @GordonRamsay said, AMD's competitor in the price class is yet to arrive, and the B550 boards are quite nice compared to the cheap LGA1200 boards.

Weird times when Intel is the strongest competitor in the midrange...

EDIT: this summarises it nicely - watch from 19:35 to the end:

I just got my 11400F a couple of minutes ago.

4770 to 11400F.

Building a new rig and also wondering if I should go i5 11 400f or Ryzen 5 3600 and then upgrade this once AMD's new budget cpu launches...

Go for the Intel. Better at gaming and both AM4 and LGA1200 are end of life, both are being replaced.

There's also rumours of the "Zen 3+" refresh which might appear after the Zen 3 APUs (5400G, 5700G etc) in April/May this year.

Zen 3+ vs 14nm+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++. Battle of the refreshes, will be interesting to see...

IS the Ram speed linked to intel 10th gen cpu or the mobo ?

Have an extra GFX card which I might want to stick in my system so looking for an LGA 1200 mobo with 2 graphics card slots and 3200mhz ram compatibility

Would this work ?

Motherboard AFAIK. So anything below certain level won't support RAM overclocking. 500-series might actually support 3200 native (unsure).

The Aorus B560M Elite costs pretty much the same price.

This one ? IS there a difference between 3200mhz and 3200mhz (oc) ?

Probably an error on the listing @Oj0

The motherboard manufacturer website says 3200MHz does not require any overclocking for 11th gen on that board.

Gigabyte has been editing their specs faster than it's possible to keep up. Until very recently, all the Z590 boards were listed as only supporting up to DDR4-3200.

Getting any stock of the i5 11400f this month ?

Well if the Zen 3+ rumours are true, there is a bit more life in AM4 yet.

But ja if you need a midrange gaming CPU right now the 11400 looks pretty sweet.

All eyes on new Threadripper rather. If this is what AMD can do, imagine giving their engineers some "room to improvise". A Zen3+ 5960X with an official 5GHz boost would be nice though.
