I work for a small insurance company called LOOM - we're underwritten by Compass Insurance.

Basically we'll insure anything with a serial number and proof of purchase - drones, phones, consoles, all PC components, laptops, headphones...anything.
If you don't see it listed on the site then let me know and I'll see if we can add it quickly for you.

You have the option of fully comprehensive cover or theft only if you want to save a buck. Our premiums are the lowest in the business because we're a lightweight team of guys (and Tracey) so low costs = low premiums.
There's no paperwork, no credit check, no banking details, no back & forth. Just click the link, enter the item you're insuring, check you're happy with the premium, enter your card details and you're covered.

What you need:
  • A card that allows online payment. We have support for 3D Secure.
  • The device's serial / imei number.
  • Either the original proof of purchase for the device showing a serial / imei number OR the original packaging for the device showing the serial / imei number.
  • Photos of the device, front & back, showing the serial / imei number and confirming no existing damage. You have a week after signing up to upload these.
Also, you get a 20% discount on every additional device you cover after the first.

Legally I need to state that I'm not a financial consultant and cannot give financial advice. You'll find all the T&Cs of the cover (it's the usual) on our website.

Any questions, either ask in this thread or PM me :)

Edit - Adding info from questions in the thread:

  • Yes, you're insured for power surge damage eg from lightning or Eskom shenanigans. Limits and conditions are the same as any other type of claim; no weird limits.
  • Yes, we're legit! We've been around for two years now. Started with cell phones and worked up from there.
  • No, our site doesn't work with IE or Edge. They give major formatting and payment gateway issues. Chrome, Firefox and Safari are supported. Not sure about Brave.

Ha alright, I actually just signed up with Loom around 2 / 3 weeks ago to cover my phone.
It has been a fairly simple process actually.

Obviously I have not had to claim yet and ideally would never need to make a claim. Reviews seem positive and sounds as if you guys honour the claim.

First 50 carbies get free cover?

haha

Ha! There's a weird legal thing where companies are not actually allowed to offer "free cover". Tell you what though; if I get 3 or more carbies each month I'll pick one and pay for their first full month's cover myself.

what a champ!

I would love to sign up for it but I don't have the original invoices for any of my stuff :/ Can't even remember who I bought most of it from rofl.

Glad to hear it :)

So if Eskom decides to play shenanigans again and my motherboard and CPU goes pop, I'm covered?

If so, you're about to be a very rich man

Yeah that's the difficult thing and I knew it would be an issue on Carb. PoP seems to disappear with so many deals!

Well if people are aware of the requirement now for insurance they will be sure to ask for it and keep it safe so it's awesome for deals going forward.

Your site doesn't support Firefox, I.E. or Edge?

Yep, you're covered (y)

We have a weird issue with the formatting in IE & Edge, and FF messes with the payment gateway. We're working on it.

How legit is this? Looms premium is pretty low compaired to what outsurance quoted me for my mate 20 pro.

🤨 We're legit. We're underwritten by Compass Insurance, who is in turn part of the Hannover Re group.

Would that be full amount? My current insurer basically stated I am fine in all cases except for Eskom surges, whereby my claim will be limited to 25K and 5K per item. Needless to say most of us here have setups worth far more than that.

Thanks, will check out later

Oh you ended up doing this after all? I thought we had kinda talked you out of it.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Good luck :)

How can they choose numbers like that? Seems way too arbitrary.
With us you'd be covered the same as you would be covered for any other event regardless of whether it's a total loss or a repair.

Thanks man!
We've been running for two years now - started with cell phones and worked our way up.

Would an affidavit from a seller on Carb stating price and other pertinent information suffice as a POP ?

Do I have to go through the process of insurance on each individual part of my pc?

We need to insure uniquely identifiable parts, so if you get an XPS gaming PC for example, it’ll have it’s own serial number as a whole and we can insure the PC as a whole.

If you have a custom machine with individual components that you bought separately, then yes, you’ll need to insure each component specifically, each with its own serial number. They’ll all be under one policy though and you’ll benefit from the 20% discount we give for multi-item policies.

The reason we have to work this way is someone could insure a PC that has a 9900k and a GTX1050 for say R30k as a whole, and if the graphics card dies they could tell us they had an RTX2080...

I see.
Cool thanks, will go through the sign up process as soon as I get a break from work.
In the case where I bought 2nd hand parts, can I just look up the parts on Wootware for example and quote their current price for insured value?
Because quite a few of my parts don't have invoices like my ram or my psu (Actually those are the only ones without invoices)

Great :)

The whole proof of purchase thing is...a thing. We need it or, as was discussed a little earlier, an affidavit from the seller saying he sold the item to you. Include the most detailed description you can, the date, amount and serial numbers.

Why doesn't your site work on Firefox, bud?

Not installing Chrome, sorry.

Check above op mentioned it already. Why not install brave using same engine as chrome but better. I rate its better than ff too.
