Soooo, anyone up for another one of my opinion pieces on a film. This time it is Incredibles 2.

This film seriously surprised me. Considering it is Disney and what Star Wars ended up being like and what Thor ended up being like, I went into this film with really low expectations. I was expecting cheap jokes, misplaced jokes, action scenes that were inappropriate, some agenda pushing possibly, etc etc etc. A myriad of issues that I have found to be quite blatant in many of the other films Disney has coughed up this year and last.

But...this was by far one of the best films Disney has put out in a bit (with full credit going to Pixar I think).

Whilst the story was fairly basic and I called the story about 15 minutes into the film (although I chose the wrong character but it was close), it was well executed.

Pixar seems to have taken notice of the actual target audience and built the film up around that idea. There was little to no virtue signaling (with some scenes having a very back and forth nature when agendas were brought up), the film definitely was not too biased one way or another. The jokes used were very clever and whilst some were a bit basic, the vast majority were clever and timeous. I think the big issue with a lot of the modern films from the last few years is the humour is severely inappropriate. What I mean by this is not that the humour is vulgar, but rather that it is used in ways that is very jarring and pulls away from the overall story. It seems like a lot of people don't really mind this (although I can't see why) but Incredibles 2 is a great example of how a film can portray a decent, but fun story in a way that is still funny without removing the 'seriousness' from a specific scene or whatnot. This is very important.

One more thing about the humour in the film is that it is blatant enough for kids to have fun but also has a very nuanced, tactful way of ensuring those jokes hit home with the adult viewer as well. Clever and well done.

Another thing which is important to take note of is something that I think afflicts the current Star Wars franchise. Sales beyond the film. Star Wars seems to have a lot of issues due to the need for Disney to shoehorn product placement in for the sale of toys and the like. From what I can tell, Incredibles 2 will sell toys very easily WITHOUT anything in the film feeling like it was there JUST to sell toys. Why can this not be translated to other Disney films? I have an idea why, Pixar! I think Pixar know what they are doing and have not been totally and utterly destroyed by corporate Disney but I am not sure. Just an idea.

Finally the last thing I will point out is the strong female presence in the film. In our current landscape, there is a lot discussion surrounding the use of female leads in films and whatnot. Incredibles 2 is a great example of a film allowing a strong female presence without the need to attack the male presence or make inappropriate jokes at the wrong times just to put forth an ideal or agenda. What was even better is the film managed to put forth a sort of argumentative discussion (without giving away too many spoilers) between Elastigirl and the antagonist, Evelyn. This was very interesting and definitely did not take anything away from the film in the same way that other films have been destroyed by. I was extremely impressed by this and I think it shows in the film.

My verdict for the film? 8.6/10

Anyone else go and see it? Would most certainly love to hear the opinions of others who saw it?

P.S. - As someone who has a mental disability, this film seriously should have had a seizure warning but oh well.

I liked the fact that it was a direct sequel non of that 5 years later crap.
Wow teenagers are still irritating in Sci Fi even animated ones.
Unfortunately I feel jaded and could spot the real bad guy a mile away. I had to sit there not saying anything so as to not spoil it for the kids.
Also the soundtrack was awesome to the degree that my wife could see I have intentions of buying a 7.1 system again and I got a stern look.. :D

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I will be honest, I pegged the storyline immediately. Although, I initially thought that both of them were the bad guys not just Evelyn. But it really is a sad state of affairs when Incrediibles 2 is the proverbial gold standard for Disney right now

Perhaps consider deleting the spoiler above for those who haven't seen it.
I've also quite liked it, but I wish that I have watched the first one again before watching it though.
