Hello Peeps
Not sure if this is in the right section if not please direct me where i must post.
Im inporting a Mazda Roadster ( MX5 MK3 Hard top) for the Wife.
Her grocery getter a Hundai Getz is getting old and starting to give some issues, not to mention over 300k on the clock with very poor maintenance from the previous owner.
Seeing as the car is way overpriced here in SA, i bought it in Yokohama Japan.
They confirmed my order today. meanning that the car will be loaded onto the next RoRo (Roll on Roll of Boat) coming to Durban Port.
Some people may Feel that this is wrong as i am not supporting Local, but i believe if you cant afford something and have Legal means of obtaining something you want then hey, why not?
Let me know what you think.
Pic of the car i am importing.

This is true. For now im keeping the cars on forein reg as i wot get annoying etoll invoices. LolWell ...
Import duties and registering the car on SA soil will amount to around 90% of the purchase price abroad !
Goodluck with that ^^
Its a RB 20 de at around 114kw.wow this is awesome , what did the Nissan set you back
im not to clued up on the 4 door whats the engine and power level , and does it have the 4wd
They Can Yes but the problem is the Americans are buying them up like crazy, and to the japanese $ is king so expect to pay nything from 400k too 1mil for a decent one.Anyone know if a Supra can still be imported?
What's wrong with the respray? I have never had a car resprayed so wouldn't know what to look for...

They just dont period. I love these cars and only way i could own them is to import. It sucks not to have insurance.

You might be right as the Skyline was never imported or sold in SA, most companies I've asked say the cant give insurance as they are registered in other Africa countries.Just to chip in here. When we moved back to SA from Australia we brought my wifes car, a Rav4 with us. No issues at all getting insurance and premiums are no different from what we pay for my locally sourced car.
I don't think the reason you can't get insurance is because of the import (most cars on our roads are imported by the manufacturers). Perhaps it is the model or your age or something else.

Please if you don'd mind it would help.Strange that they say that about registration, our Rav took six month to register and during that time we drove it on the Australian plates. I specifically detailed this to the insurer (auto and general} and they were happy. My policy had the Australian plates listed on it.
I know a guy with a porsche carrera gt also registered in Lesotho, when next I see him I will ask how he insurer's it. I doubt he would drive such an expensive car without insurance.
