Hey guys
I'm interested in upgrading my GPU. Would an RTX 3080 and i7 9700k have any bottleneck issues?
I've tried to check on a bottleneck calculator but they didn't have any of the RTX 3000 cards listed

Why don't you wait for Ryzen 5000?

You’ll be absolutely fine.

Yes, you’ll leave performance on the table with the 9700K but that’s always going to happen with a performance part like the 3080.

what happens if you upgrade your 9700K to a 11900K and suddenly the CPU outpaces the card?

Then RAM is an issue etc.

Also, some games will be fine with a 9700K and others (Like MS flight simulator) will need more.

I’m looking to pair a 3070 with a 3300X but I’ll get an AMD 5000 series later on so I don’t care.

Do you think the 9900k would be worth the extra bit of cash when pairing with the 3080?

Depends. What are your goals?

I think that it’ll be a big jump from the 9700K to the 9900K, yes.

Your 9700K doesn’t have hyper threading if I recall and that’s a big drop off from the 9900K.

But, I think it’ll be better to get an 11900K over a 9900K because of the improved storage to GPU technology that the new processors bring.

I’d happily pair the 9700K with a 3080 for now though.

Budget money in an investment portfolio for next years upgrade.

Total waste of money especially as you are running a RTX 3080
You are going to run into a CPU bottleneck especially at 1440p and 100% at 4k
Just do some research comparing any decent 6 core / 12 thread and higher CPU with a RTX 3080 and they are all almost identical

Way too much obsessing over the CPU and this constant hype train that you need a gazillion threads.

Here are two links to get you started

Sorry I didn't see someone else had posted the same comparison on the first link but I guess we are on the same page then :)

Also at what res are you playing games at?
CPU bottleneck shifts slightly and the load becomes far more on the GPU.

I want to run games at 1440p and I have a 144hz monitor. Won't be playing anything on 4k

I currently have an i5 9600k and z390 board. I was going to upgrade to the 9700k but the I9 would be roughly 1500 more. Would it be worth it to get the 9900k?

I see that. So you think the 9900k is a waste over the 9700k with regards to the 3080?

Get a 3070 from woot at ZAR 12999 (it is in stock atm).

3070 is made for the 1440p or is f you want to wait. the AMD 6800 handly out paces the 3070 and is USD 50 cheaper.

BTW it would be easier to give you advice, if you listed your current rig

cpu
motherboard
ram
PSU

I noted you listed monitor res and refresh rate.

Games played

I was interested in the 6800xt by I see you need a ryzen cpu to get the full potential from the card?

nope you get more FPS potential with AMD.

It works just fine with Intel

for longevity I would get the card with 16gb ram. (18 November is the launch date)

And there should be stock? I'd probably have to wait til 2021 to get a rog strix 3080

AMD drops the 6800 and 6800xt on the 18 November 2020. apparently wootware will have stock before end November 2020

Check out the performance with out rage mode. Still beats the 3000 series
