Hello all,

I am looking at getting a new phone as I am getting a bit over my 6s+. I've been looking at the P20 Pro through Telkom and the V30 through Vodacom, but I'm a bit torn betwen the two.

Both phones are similarly specced with the P20 Pro having 6 gigs of ram vs the V30 having 4 gigs. The P20's camera(s) looks like a great selling point, although the V30's isn't that bad either, judging from a few reviews. All I need from a phone is a good camera and a decent screen that will run basic apps without issues, and obviously a decent battery.

As with the networks, I've been with Vodacom since I got my first phone, but the Telkom deals aren't that bad. Are they any good reception/customer service wise? Would porting my number be hassle free?

Any suggestions or thoughts from your use would be helpful and appreciated!

If you looking at the P20 Pro, then why are you looking at the V30 over the newer LG G7 ThinQ?
If you looking at V30, then it's competitors would be the Mate 10 Pro and Note 8.

If you looking at the P20 Pro, then you should be looking at the LG G7 ThinQ, Samsung Galaxy S9+ and Sony Xperia XZ2.
Each of those phones have strengths and weaknesses in different areas, so you should compare them and see what's most important to you.

Huawei P20 Pro:
+ AMOLED Display
+ Best Rear Camera
+ Best Battery Life
+ 6/128GB
- FHD+ Resolution
- No Headphone jack
- Weakest processor (Kirin 970 < SD845/Exynos 9810)
- Only one without a MicroSD card slot
- Only one without wireless charging

LG G7 ThinQ:
+ QHD+ Resolution
+ Comes with Bluetooth Headset, Wireless Charger & 64GB MicroSD Card
? Not sure which version is sold here (4/64GB or 6/128GB)
- Only one without stereo speakers

Samsung S9+:
+ Best Display (QHD+ Resolution & Super AMOLED Display)
+ 6/128GB

Sony Xperia XZ2:
+ Cleanest UI (Closest to stock)
+ Comes with Bluetooth Headset
- FHD+ Resolution
- No Headphone Jack
- 4/64GB

Loving the v30, screen is nice as well and with heavy use the battery is about 40% at end of day.

Given a choice between the two I'd take the P20 just for the camera.

Having owned them both, they're honestly not comparable... The P20 Pro is MILES ahead in every aspect (except the DAC)

According to gsmarena.com, the P20 Pro does have a DAC but I'm sure it's not as good as the LG version. LG boasts about the DAC in the V30 which means it ploughed money into that department.

Edit: How does it do it without a 3.5" jack?

Don't forget the DAC in the V30 has been fine tuned by B&O and certified by them. Pair the phone up with B&O cans and prepare for an eargasm.

Tried my Bose cans, and while they sound good - you can't even start the comparison against the B&O. So selling the Bose.
