How Was Carbonite Started?

Hey,

Not sure if this has been posted before, tried searching for it but nothing came up, but how was Carbonite started or why. I read a few posts a while ago that said this forum had another name before Carbonite. Please no personal information but rather a general idea of how it all began. Thanks

Carbonite started as a spin off of the Prophecy Shop Forum. We were essentially the classifieds section on that forum.

The Prophecy owner @Firestar started it with myself and @Luc as admins. Eventually I was the only admin and ran Carbonite for a few years on my ace. The forum wasn't as big as it is now so was pretty easy to manage.

As time went on, it stagnated, so I offered to buy the site from Firestar and took on @ian_stagib as my forum partner in crime.

And the rest is history.

That was the date the site went live yes. The domain was live from 2009 though while Firestar built the Vbulletin site.

I do believe the forum came first, the shop was later attached.

Then Jesus came and it all went to shit.

Then that became Carbonite and Evilsod.

After I moved to Joburg in 2007 I bought my first 2 big gaming pc's (well all the parts anyway) from Prophecy shop.

I guess I take for granted how long some of us have been around for, not everyone knows the history and naturally there are new comers all the time.

There was this one dude in prophecy who always had plenty of second hand gpus for cheap. Like weekly at least 10 or something like that. I still bought 6600gt's for him. 2 at once cause it was so cheap. The one failed within 2 weeks but I didn't bother cause I had another one. Think his name is SlickerZA
