**** HOW TO MINE CRYPTOS **** Beginners Guide

Get your core speed up in order to get decent hash, try core of 1000, if it fails try the default 950 odd it comes at.

Add powertune 20 to your config if you need to.

Let me know if that solves it :)

gox1201 its reported that the 7870 LE mines better with an underclock.
You will see in his earlier posts he was running 975 clock and hashing 290 and with an underclock he gets 330. Very strange cards these as they are actually more based on the 7950's but their hashing does not show it.

Normal XT versions of the card runs fine and up to 400 khash no problem.

Its wierd would love to see a carb miner push these passed 400khash.

I dont have one :( EmileS let me know when you want to sell, will be looking for a gaming card soon. Will try it out then. As far as I know it also uses 2 x 6pins like the 7950?

Just push the core, the problem is not that it runs better with an underclock, the problem is that the strap timings in the bios is horrendous. Try get the core to 1150 or 1200 drop the memory down to almost nothing, then increment it by 125 and see what each gives you. Otherwise do the inverse.

Nice! Interested to see what happens

hello. tried running your settings for the r9 270x and its not really working, im getting HW 4. any advice ?

3 guesses where my whole day went into? I got her up to ~350Kh today.. And a big log to show how I got there!

One thing I noticed, is that the hash rate jumps a lot, e.g. 324 to 334 to 342 back to 334 back to 324 then up again. It continues on that cycle.

TCs lower than 16000 give HW errors & higher than 28000 is unstable.

Also notices the spikes again at Powertune higher than -20%. I think it has something to do with the temps. Don't know what to do to change that though? As soon as it hits 85 it starts.

From looking at the log below I determined: My GPU Powertune must be set to -20, that keeps the temps, sounds, and fan speed nice and low. Moving the Powertune up doesn't make any difference. The clockspeed sweetspot is around 825mhz and memory 1475mhz.

Start point settings: cgminer --scrypt -o http://ltc.give-me-coins.com:3333 -u XXXXX -p XXXXX --gpu-engine 700 --gpu-memclock 1500 -I 19 --gpu-threads 1 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 19000 --worksize 256

Awesome, do you mind posting a pic of your miner?
EmileS what fan profiles are you running? 85 is NOT save for mining imo.Well not if it is 24/7
Heat seems to be your issue in otherwords your card is down clocking (heat throttling)

If you gonna mine on I would suggest constant fan of at least 70% and checking out kllr123 settings

Do not run cards with hardware erros. Is some cases there are differences in settings between 270 and 270x. Keep all the sime but put your
TC as 16000. If it does not work follow the link in the guide for other 270x settings

Doesn't work for me at all (only getting 320). Could it be due to me mining LTC or the pool I'm in?

Hash on your pc has nothing to do with your pool I am afraid.

Oh and aslong as its scrypt there is no effect in mining different coins. Your card will mine 330 for anycoin you choose

:( @kllr was there anything else you did? Some voltage tuning or something?

Did I just get a bad draw of GPU?

Ill check again but i cant remember doing anything else. Will also upload a GPU-Z sceen shot for you later

EmileS just a handful of questions:

what is your fan speed set at?
What environment are you running your card in? --> open case/ closed case? fan directly on it? risers?

lastly, you checked that you are deleting/have deleted any .bin file?
and you used the setx commands to set gpu use to 100?

Sorry, just covering the basics, before we try alter it.

Also, for interest sake run cgminer without specifying a TC, but keep all your other settings,
then write a config file
and go see what TC it defaulted to
delete the config file, specify that TC in your mining bat, and try mine
then also take that same TC +1 in your mining bat, and try mine again

Then please report back.

Something else to try as well
Undervolt your card, then use + powervolt. I found with my 280x, that running -powertune drastically drops the hashrate, yet undervolting and + powertune, used less power, ran cooler, and hashed a lot faster

Oh and EmileS, before I forget. Your TC is odd, and its likely causing you some issues

As far as I know: TC for 7870 LE = shaders amount (1536) then multiplied by 4 (6144) as minimum value, then go up by 1536 each time.
Take whatever final answer you settle on and, try +1

In other words the theoretical optimal TC for a 7870 LE card is:
6144 / 6145
7680 / 7681
9216 / 9217
10752/ 10753
etc

If your TC is too low, you will get HW errors, if its too high, you will get Rejects/WU problems
My guess would be you should try:26112/ 26944 or some such

Oh, sorry my thoughts are all over the place

Did you check your RAM type? the Elpida ram is really buggered on the myst editions, if its that I might be able to help you

Thank you gox1201 for all this info. Alot of miners can benefit from this as it explains mining in a bit more detail espicially TC

thanks a lot dude :D. No more HW errors for now. re-edited the bat file. I'm currently "attempting" to mine doge (dohj)

looks like this now:

setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100

cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum6.dogehouse.org:993 -u Weblogin.Worker -p Password -I 19 -g 1 -w 512 --thread-concurrency 16000 --gpu-fan 80

as a result I'm getting this:

View attachment 21131

everything look kosher ?

It does but you should be mining at a bit higher hash on 270x. Try oc of atleast 1100 on core and see how it is. Temps are too low :p

470 hash should be easy for a 270x to handle.

temps are almost 60 :O that's plenty high ! after the pic i saw of that 7990 you got me all paranoid

Death the Kid

cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum6.dogehouse.org:993 -u Weblogin.Worker -p Password -I 19 -g 1 -w 512 --thread-concurrency 16000 --gpu-fan 80

w 512 is kind of pointless,
not sure if you are using sgminer or cgminer but cgminer caps w at 256, and even if it didn't its not worth going above 256, for the 270 or 280 series, only series that would benefit is the 290

I think you should try the following variations on the 270x, assuming that its stable at that level
+20 power limit/powertune
1080 core clock
1500 memory clock
90 fan speed

Thread concurrency 12992 or 13440 or 15296, 21568 (I still don't believe one needs to specify this, CGminer will work it out for you, if you get HW errors go up on TC, if too many rejects, go down in intensity)
worksize 256
vectors 1
intensity 19
GPU threads 1

If you can get your card to mine without causing screen distortions, you should attempt to get close to 1150 core, this will give you 490 hash rate.

As a last tip, in general when mining

Memory works in straps, so your effective memory points are 1250, 1375, 1500. Tweaking in between will gain/lose you a little hash, but has quite a bit of effect on your card stability for overclock.

E.g. my 270x is able to do 1080/1500, but becomes a little unstable after 12h, yet it can happily do 1120/1250 for days on end, doing about 480 hash

thanks a lot man. will try fiddling with the core and mem clocks a bit.

EDIT: soz for the OT but how long will it take to mine 1 doge with a 270x at 392 hash ?

WoW awesome post! i'm so starting this pointless miner thing because i can. Just want to ask 1 silly question...whom are we helping with all this mining we doing? why is it generating virtual currency from what purpose? i saw a youtube vid but it made no sense to me. What are we helping with the GPU miners and with the non-GPU miners whom is benefiting from our services?

In short no one "benefits" from it, the immense compute power is completely wasted (well, you get coins :p ) . Mining is solving of complex algorithm that do not mean anything they just increase in difficulty the more miners start hashing on the network.

Whats the point besides getting coins? What does organisers of the coin mining get? Do they make money by charging miners fees?
