How to actually make your car faster

I get a serious hardon for an RWB Porsche.

download.php

RWB is a Japanese car modifier who focuses on extreme body kits. He hand builds each Porsche and often freestyles it.

No one else makes a regular Porsche look better. Take any off the shelf kit and it just makes the car look like it came from the year 2000.

RWB is timeless.

Are you sure that is an original RWB? Looks like a body kit styled like a RWB with a big sticker on the window.

Shrewdly noticed. I guess some are more obvious than others.

Like this one, which belongs in a mental asylum

So I/you have two paths to follow as a car enthusiast:

1) buy a shell of a car, find an appropriate engine like an LS1 Version 6 or;

2) buy something like a Chev Lumina SS which comes with an LS1 engine by default.

The problem with 1 is that it’s very very expensive as a South African to get the parts in and that excludes labor. The engine is ~$7000 new and that’s just the engine. No transmission, radiator, pipes, ECU, etc

The problem with 2 is that you don’t get the exact LS1 engine you want because they made so few of the 6.2L version.

A third option is to try get a Lumia SS and find a second hand high performance engine and gearbox to put into it.

They are nice however if I had to go for a old school porker it would have to be one from Singer.

Why just adding power doesn't make your car faster in a circuit race

There is a lot of items to factor in when tuning your car for the circuit, power is not everything! Suspension, tires and brakes make a lot of difference.

Singer cars are amazing. Can’t argue. Serious car porn with Singer.

They really are nice, companies like singer and eagle are keeping the classics alive.

This is the Cleetus McFarland channel where they do mental things like this:

I highly recommend you go check out their videos, they are fantastic.

This is what you put in your car to make it actually go faster, not higher octane fuel and not petrol additives.

Even with 108 octane rated fuel, you probably won’t gain very much power unless you have a fuel management system that can take advantage of it.

A proper engine management system allows you to tune your car to do so. I looked into maybe getting one for a car build down the road but they are hellishly expensive.

RWB is amazing,
But saying no one else when Singer exists is blasphemy

Some interesting points mentioned. And some real proper fast cars as well...

I wanted a fast car, so went through Opel OPC > Corsa OPC > BMW 320i turbo > BMW 320d (jeez that thing kicked like a mule) > Polo 1.6 (hehe slow af) > Fiesta ST.

Fiesta ST ticked all the boxes for me. Now the long wait until something proper breaks.

The engines in the Polo's are powered by coal and feel terrible. Terrible responsiveness and power delivery.

Very wavy power and torque curves, with a sharp drop off.

Add a turbo and they are fine but you pay a fortune for that. Other manufactures actually make an engine for a budget car that doesn't suck, like Mazda.

I have a 2006 Polo 1,9 TDI Sportline and treat it very well as she treats me as well, amazing mileage and the performance from a simple downpipe and software is remarkable.

Regardless of the cars I have no I still kept the car and refuse to sell it.

That was an engine designed for a Passat that they just shoehorned into a Polo. Overkill. Those things shoot off.

I think VW just didn’t want to have to spend the money on designing a new engine so they just used that one for the Polo.

If recall, it’s actual displacement was something like ~2.3L? Mental for such a small car.

Edit: I am wrong about the displacement, it was a 1.9, but it still had the same engine as the Passat. 240nm, 77kw for the Polo, higher for the Passat with one engine specced at 310.
