Hello folks,

Quick one - as per the title - any effective ways of completely ridding oneself of this scourge on Smart TV's?
Have Pi-Hole and been banging my head in effectively stopping all Youtube adverts - in vain.

There simply has to be a way. There just simply has to be a network wide way sans YT Premium :D
Don't want to subscribe to yet another service.

Strange I never have adverts ? Only thing I got on my PC is Ublock Origin and I'm signed into Youtube
PS: And don't have premium

I use Brave browser on pc with no ads. On a Smart TV it's a bit more difficult with partial success using a Pihole

Which TV? Different smart ones have different solutions

And depends if you running android tv, android or something else. youtube tv vs youtube etc.

Although for my Hisense b8000 running VIDAA U 3.0 I just gave up and got Youtube Premium (still on trial but might keep it for youtube music and google play music)

Edit: if you want to get more technical you could try pi-hole or adguard. I replaced my usg with a udm so I cant do some of the technical things like adblocking anymore but I also wouldnt want to because im lazy and like IoT.

Just a heads up that DNS blocking for YouTube only works for browsers, as the Mobile and Smart apps serve ads within the same domains as regular content and via other methods that would break functionality so for them the only options are Vanced or Premium where possible. People that claim otherwise might have encountered a common glitch that doesn't serve ads for certain sessions and is most likely placebo, sorry about that. :/

Thanks. And you get zero ads? Or the occasional that slip through?
So I may have like a few secs black screen now and then where it tries to play an ad but then just resumes the video. But never any to be honest, and definitely none of this un skippable shit. I often VPN to another region from my MediaBox and then suddenly all this shit comes through again and I am quickly reminded how well my stuff works.

I am sure it wont be a 100% fool proof way, but I just refuse to pay for youtube premium. What is also does really well for me is the blocking of these add tracking things when browsing. I really shat myself when my Echo heard me talk about lego and next thing I am being served lego ads. Fuck that.

I know you say you don't want YT premium...I get it
But it does solve this problem completely.
In addition, I use google music every day, it's included with YT Premium (its being replaced by YT Music - also free with YT Premium)
Further - it gets me an extra 500 ebucks points as a streaming service
It's like R110 for the family option so you rid all your loved ones of this horror no matter what network or device they're on.

Not even mentioning that at least some of the money go towards the creators - there are a bunch of people that put out really good content that I get to enjoy - someone needs to pay for that.

I've had hit and miss success with my Pi-Hole config. An up to date block list is key. Will use the source you provided.

Thanks. Sound advice.
I'm a firm believer of tinkering till solved and working the resolution through :)
Will certainly pursue the premium option if other avenues don't yield the desired results though.
