Insurance is paying out for my laptop this week and not sure what to get.

Budget between R30000-38000

All these look pretty good. I think a 17 inch is too big?

I am a gamer, but barely have time to game. Laptop is more of a backup and for some video editing when travelling.

I have a high end desktop for most of my work.

So I was looking at laptops as the best bet I can tell is to get a good CPU and pair it with the best GPU you can get.

An i5 8300H has a higher TDP than the i7 8565 so it should perform in the same league.

A 2070 paired with an i5 should be more than enough.

Weight is the problem though - when you start including high end parts, you need more cooler which adds a shit ton of weight.

You will almost double the weight of the laptop just going from a 1050ti to a 1060 6gb Max Q.

If you want to pick it up and go, rather get a non gaming focused laptop with a high end processor.

I don't really mind weight as I don't travel with it much.

This is the best cpu and gpu. Also 240hz screen

The Gigabyte Aero has the best battery life though of around 10 hours.

I wouldn’t focus on battery life with a gaming laptop. You won’t ever move it so it’ll just stay plugged in.

Literally none of the battery figures you are looking at are what you will actually get running full tilt. The claimed battery life is always a very light use like word processing and browsing. You're looking at 2.5-4 hours at best with all of them, with likely only a few minutes separating them rather than a few hours at claimed life.

No, as JollyJamma said, just focus on CPU & GPU. That Aorus looks fantastic.

Yeah I know those battery figures are about as accurate as fuel consumption figures on cars.

I'm also liking the Aorus the most so far.

@crackerjack Maybe take a loot at the wootbook as well?

I saw the Wootbook, great value for money it seems. Just see that it's a bit rough around the edges, great specs though!

My current laptop that broke was a Lenovo Workstation and the quality was really great

I would go for the wootbook with 2070maxq. Aorus/Gigabyte - won't touch with a stick. RMA's/parts availability is def an issue. Been through a few of those. They won't even quote on a replacement fan without having opened it, won't sell me a keyboard as they need to fit.

Okay cool, and parts RMA on the Woot? Would they just do it all themselves I presume?

I've had this Wootbook for a few months now. It's really well built and blazing fast. I'm using it with 2 external monitors at the office and some mobile gaming when I travel. It gets quite toasty while gaming, other than that I haven't had any issues with it.

I think so yeah

@ScuBaLlama has a wootbook. Not the 2070 version but maybe you can share you experience so far?

Love Gigabyte Aero 15 Laptops. Really does have great battery life : 94Whr is huge.
I would think the newer ones battery life is no different. Same massive battery . Nice for travelling as well, as it's slim and light and
looks classy and stylish .

You could build a 9900K gaming machine with the budget you have and it would sit in exactly the same location and move just as much as a gaming laptop.

Not an Aero 15. Things made to move baby.

I currently have an 8700K at 5ghz under a Corsair H150i, with 32GB DDR4 3000mhz, Asus Rog Strix Z370-E, and a Strix GTX1080. With two Samsung 860 Evo M2 SSDs. So upgrading to a 9900k wouldn't really make it worth it as I'm not even using the current setup to its fullest extend.

Uh. Why do you need a gaming laptop again?

Why not get an ultra book such as the Surface Pro?

You have a gaming rig. Upgrade to an Nvidia 2080ti.

Just so that if I am travelling I can game at least and if I wanna Lan with friends.

Also need something that will handle video editing well.

Surface Pro is cool though.

I wouldn't get a 2080ti. So busy with my business so haven't even gamed in months :(

I'd rather just get a 1080ti

this is a really good option.

Ended up taking the Wootbook. What a machine and ridiculous build quality. I reckon if it had to spec and premium brand laptop the same it would be at least 40k.

i7-9750H, 16GB DDR4, 2 x 512GB M2 SSDs, RTX2060.

All aluminium body is proper and temps are actually quite decent. Mechanical keyboard is amazing and this machine doenst come with any bloatware at all which is great

It must be highly modular because that’s the way it’s advertised.

Given this, it’s not impossible to think that you could upgrade the CPU and GPU later on with the next gen of products.

My gaming laptop comes with the 1060 6gig and as far as I can tell, you can remove it.

You still need to factor in TDP and cooling but I don’t think it would be a problem unless you went mental with the upgrade.
