Hey guys,

There is something strange going on with the key remote for my Audi A3 (8V). I recently got the warning to replace the key battery. I bought two brand new Energizer 3V coin batteries and replaced the key battery with one of them. I confirmed it was working, and closed the remote. It then continued working through to the next day, however at the end of the day, when I was leaving work for home, the remote did not work (no light blinking when I hit lock/unlock). So I opened up the remote again, shifted the battery, and voila, working again. This continued to happen every day. In the morning, I need to open the remote and just so much as touch the battery with my fingers for it to work again. It works immediately after I touch it, and for a short while after. Then when I leave it alone for some time, it dies again (and so I have to reopen it in the evening when going home). It feels like just a few minutes now is all it needs to go dead again, as I 'activated' it this morning, drove to work (10 minutes) then it wouldn't work to lock the car when I got out. I've now switched to the second new battery and am still having the exact same issue. I've attached some pictures just to show that there is no damage on the battery, or the battery holder/contacts. This is driving me nuts.

I'm hoping it is something silly that I'm just missing that someone is able to point out :p

You kept the old battery?

#Tinfoil :)

EDIT: Not even tinfoil. Anything really. It seems as if they battery is not being pressed in enough to make the connection.
The new battery is probably 1mm thinner than the old one

Going to try this (y)

I would contact Audi and find out if they can't give you specs for a replacement battery. It's not going to be funny if the key leaves you stranded someplace far.

This^^

You possibly replaced a 2032 battery with a 2025, the 2025 is thinner so may have trouble making contact.

You could be right. I wasn't even aware of this. Just bought the first 3V coin battery I saw.

Especially in this country. Anyway, I can at least use the car with the physical key in the door handle, so it's not too much of a problem. It's just embarrassing when the alarm goes off every time I unlock and get back in, haha.

I was thinking the same, yeah. 2025 is also slightly, slightly smaller. Careful with batteries mate, some are 1.5, some are 3v, and they're NOT interchangeable.

So I stuffed a rubber band in there between the battery and the claws holding it down. It's been about an hour and still working. Not calling it yet, but it's a good sign.

Yay!

I would recommended another material to use. The rubber will corrode and become brittle eventually breaking and causing the same problem later on.

Maybe folded paper? Or take your batteries back and swap them?

Buy new batteries. Fliipit, they're like R20 each for nice ones.

Yup, definitely going to buy the right spec batteries. Was just curious to see if @Cookie and you guys were right. Size matters. Thanks guys, appreciate the help (y)

As mentioned, you probably want 2032.

The last 2 digits is the 'height'. 3.2mm
