Hi Everyone,

hope everyones starting the weekend off good!

I have 2 questions I need help with.

1. my PSU on my one rig is making a "grrrrkrrr" kind of sound. Kind of like when a fan is spinning and touching a small cable, but its not? It's also quite loud, sometimes if I switch off the pc and on again it goes away? but its been getting worse and now it's almost constant. any ideas what it could be and more importantly a solution

2. I have a mining rig with a segotep 1700W PSU, that thing is LOUD, is there a way to reduce the noise? maybe change the fan etc? does having 2 smaller PSU's make a difference besides having 2 PSU's?

your input would be greatly appreciated!

A few problems it could be is that it is not mounted tight enough and it is making a vibration in the case or I could actually be the components in the case or coil whine if it is making a similar noise to that.
Try taking to PSU out of the case and starting it up from there

sounds like the bearing is worn or faulty in that first psu, best would be to change the fan out.

Yup, +1 to bellerophon's comment. The fans are normally very easy to replace with standard PC case fans. Just be careful; the caps in a PSU can hold a lethal charge.

I usually pull to plug out instead of powering the pc down to try discharge the capacitors as much as possible then grounding myself for safety is the best way to go.Just double check the fan pins and size requirement

What brand is that PSU?
Does it sound like this?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwhuXqbsfTY

I've got the same model Seasonic PSU as in the video, and it sometimes makes the same ticking noise while gaming (ie: heavy load).
I've run the psu with no other fans in the case while holding the PSU fan still with a pen through the grille, and it still makes that ticking noise, so that rules out any possible "moving" parts or fans.
Again, this only happens occasionally while my PC is under heavy load.
Not sure if you're experiencing anything similar.

Hi everyone! thanks for the replies, really appreciate it!

So I took the PSU out of the case, has been running quitely for a few days now, I was pretty sure it wasn't due to bad mounting though, if it comes back I'll update everyone!
