Hey peeps,

Looking at buying a DAC because I would like to see if there is much difference/worthwhile experience between my onboard audio (ALC 1220) and a not-cheap but not-5-grand DAC would offer.

I currently have the HyperX Cloud Alpha headset.

What can you tell/teach me?

I can tell you that the 1220 is one of the better onboard sound chips that does surround sound.

I compared my Nuprime UDSD to the 1220 sound chip and I was impressed by the sound chip performance. It was good enough and powerful enough to push my headphones.

That being said, I don’t have the most hectic of headphones.

I don’t know if you’ll see a massive difference with the HyperX Cloud Alpha headies and a dedicated DAC.

Will know tomorrow. Got one on Carb today (y) and yep, I only go for boards that had/have the 1150 or 1220 chips.

One thing that I really liked was combining Dolby Atmos with my DAC to create the 3D sound illusion.

For PUBG, it was great.

Even with the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 headphones, which are more musical rather than SQ orientated , the sound was great.
