Long story short I bought a Senhheiser GSP 300 headset for mostly gaming. Received it and plugged it in through the 3.5mm jacks. Played a few songs and it extremely bad.

To put it lightly, the headset sounds HORRIFIC. My R600 pair of bluetooth JBL headset I use to gym beats it 10x fold, and 10x fold more. At maximum volume it is still soft, and there is absolutely no bass whatsoever. I uninstalled the sound drivers and reinstalled, no luck.

I have no sound card and run straight from the motherboard. It's an Asus ROG STRIX B250H. Link Motherboard. It's got Sonic Studio III installed and it defaulted to powerful. Even when I turn it to extreme amplification it still sounds KAK.

My Logitech Z623 speakers do not have the same problem.

The headset currently sounds worse than the R15 plug in earphones you buy from the Chinese markets.

Any ideas please?

My suggestion is try them on someone else system and see if they are the same.
Also your Z623's have an amp built in so they might not suffer from them same issue.

I had an issue where i had Corsair Headphones that sounded like a tin.

1. Try on phone
2. If kak do the following
  • Go to your Sound Control Panel
  • Select your output device (Speakers) -> Click Properties Button
  • Navigate to the "Enhancements Tab"
  • Enable "Loudness Equalization" and or "Bass Boost" (Alternate the setting and see what fixes your problem)

Silly question but have you got the audio drivers installed. Audio software installed?

I have these headphones and they sound great on my D2X soundcard, i had to change the LFE crossover to 75Hz to make them sound good.

Sorry meant it's 2x 2.5mm, but there is an adapter included to plug into one 2.5mm.

@HolyCowImAnoOb , under enhancements it just has a tab to select "Disable all sound effects".

Plugged into my laptop = Kak
Plugged into my phone = Kak

@crack2483 , I downloaded the latest drivers from the Asus website under my motherboard and installed it. Not sure if I did something wrong.

Try it in a mobile phone (preferably a fairly decent spec one) and see how that sounds? Test multiple sources. If its still bad... could be defective.

Tried phone, laptop and PC and it all sounds crap.

I see windows is not recognizing it as "Headphones". It recognizes it as speakers.

No idea what to do anymore!

There should be an option to change it to headphones. When i last used windows 10 there was an option. But remember sennies for gaming tend to be bassless. I dont mind it but also a good sound card makes the headphones sound worlds apart better than onboard but thats just my opinion. Sadly my sound card died so back to being an onboard sound pleb.

Just a nb not all headphones are meant for all types of music. So watch reviews or find someone locally with them and test them out.

Why would you use a crossover with headphones?

If it sounds bad in everything, its either not for you or its faulty. No headset should sound bad at default settings in ALL electronic devices.

As i said, if you want, come round and compare to my Sennies.
The sound profile might just not be for you as mentioned above or they could just be a dud pair.

I'll take up random sheep on his offer, thanks.

Must be faulty or a screw up on my pc. Sounds really crap to me, and I am no audiophile. Like I said, my cheap pair of JBL on ear headset beats it hands down by a million miles.

@Winston1990 Let us know how the visit went with @Random_Sheep !

I have had my PC 350s vir so many years, I have replaced the ear cups, and I can see they are wearing again, replacement incoming this time next year again. Still super happy with them. My friends are only now buying better gear (Arctis 7 seems popular, even if I would have bought Sennheisers instead), so the whole directional audio and proper sound discussion is still new on our discord.

Can't wait to hear what was wrong!

Nothing was wrong.
Headphones are perfect.
@Winston1990 was expecting it to be a more all round sounding experience but they are tuned for gaming which he says is the case.
With a lil EQ tweaking they will sound great for music as well.

I know exactly what it does, but don't understand why you would want that with headphones?

Well if i put it off it sounds like im listening to music on headphones made of tin cans.

Yip, thanks @Random_Sheep for the help once again.

The headphones sounded better in his setup than in mine. There is nothing wrong with the headphones, and I have made peace that they will be used for only gaming. I just had much higher expectations on the music side.

Definitely not worth using for listening to music imo, but it works great for my CS GO sessions.

What did you pay for them BTW?

Paid R2500 for my Sennheiser 4.50's and if I go past 60-70% it starts distorting unless I secure the earcups with my hands.

Not sure what's up with their quality.

Considered others like ASUS ROG Delta Core, Corsair Void Pro RGB, Steelseries Arctis 3 2019, Logitech G432... But after a few reviews decided on the Senhheiser GSP300's. Don't regret it as the mic is great and it works for FPS. Even though they are stereo, I do hear steps and activity in FPS games very nicely. Easy to determine direction with.

@Winston1990 7.1 is a gimmic. Your have two ears and with your two measly limited human ears, you can do perfect directional audio.

Lols. You only ever need stereo and proper audio programming. CSGO has that in heaps. (looking at you, PUBG audio coders, what the hell was that "he sounds like he is above me, no next to me, no outside" crap.)

I paid R1800 for my 4.5btnc's and they work perfectly at all volume levels. Got mine mostly on 80% when at work and never had any distortion.
