Good day guys , is there anyone that could help me change the thermal pads and paste on my gigabyte 3090 in gauteng area, I have thermal throttling on my card. I am willing to of course pay for it. Also would changing the thermal pads on my card void the warranty ? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Generally with gigabyte cards you will void the warranty by removing the cooler as you have to break a warranty void sticker to get the screws out.

Which Gigabyte card is it?
If you decide to do it yourself It’s honestly pretty easy, just take your time with it and you’ll probably find a video online to guide you.

I replaced both the pads on the front and pads for memory on the back as well as put in liquid metal paste 7 months ago on my Aorus Xtreme card and will now need to replace the memory pads again as memory temps are back up..

I put in good pads too though I’m not sure how often they usually are replaced - but you may need to get used to it if you also need to change pads every 6 months.

I haven’t seen any stickers on the 3070 or 3080 Gaming oc. Pretty sure the 3090 doesn’t have stickers either.

Changing pads will most probably void the warranty. When I did my 3080, I kept the original pads so that I could replace it if I needed to but that was after a week of purchase. If it’s longer, they generally become brittle and cannot be removed in 1 piece. I initially just did the memory pads and left the others but was still having issues so replaced the remaining ones and could not remove without breaking.

Need to find those white crappy pads if ever I need to send it in. Both thermal grizzly and gelid don’t make white pads.

Just a note though, different parts of the cards use different thickness pads so you need to find the correct ones for your card.

Can a PSU cause thermal throttling?

No clue,

Was merely asking what psu he was using,

But with all excess heat that builds up in your pc case, if you dont have proper cooling, then that would contribute to items inside getting hotter, which inturn would add towards Thermal Throttling?

So might be worthwhile asking what case and cooling he has aswell

Or i could be on the completely wrong path with this haha

Undervolt.

That said I have no knowledge of how this applies to 30 series cards, but I assume just the same as my 1080ti. Works wonders.

Tried it on my 3080ti not sure if I'm doing it wrong or what but it only dropped like 2°

Yes changing the pads will void the warranty, as soon as the sticker is physically broken then it’s voided.

If the card has had some time running and seems healthy then I would just go ahead and void the warranty and bring those temps down to a more normal level and potentially some longevity. But this is what I would personally do.

When I purchased my 3080 FE I knew about the thermal issue. So I also purchased some gelid 2mm and thermal grizzly paste. Put the the card to work before even opening it. Hit thermal throttle within a few minutes. Had to pull back clocks and power limit in order to avoid thermal throttle. Could only get 75mhs and at about 98 temp 100% fan speed.

Pulled the card and did the front first as I only had enough pads for one side. Put the card back to work and temps dropped to about 96 but at 100% fan speed and could push my over clocks back up and got 98 mhs

Finally got some more gelid pads, 2mm and 0.5mm. Pulled the card again replaced the oem pads on the back side with 2mm all around. Noticed that the back plate was bowing a bit too much for my liking. Put the card back in and only had a 2 degree drop. No change in hash rate and still at 100% fan speed. Pulled yet again and fitted the 0.5 to only the memory. The rest of the chips left at 2mm. Fitted the back plate and it was perfectly flat. Put the card back in and got positive results. Temps dropped to 90 degrees but now the fan speed is only at 75% and getting 100 mhs.

What case this is in and the rest of components is not relevant as the card was tested using the exact same case and components each and every time and I did get positive results at the end. Ambient temp was sitting at between 25 and 28 degrees varying between temps.

Gigabyte has not been using warranty void stickers for years, you can def change 3080 without voiding warranty should be able to do 3090 also

I hope this is not too late. I changed the thermal pads on my Gigabyte 3080 a couple months ago. There were no "warranty void" stickers to worry about but the new pads do look significantly different from the standard ones. My memory temps came down about 12 degrees and it turns out the old pads were leaking oil onto the heatsink and fans so I would definitely recommend the swop. I stuck the old pads to a transparent piece of plastic which I'm keeping just in case.
