Hi Guys

So i have gigabyte z390 aorus xtreme board. All is working great, expect i can not get my 2nd NVME to pickup.

My main NVME with OS on is working perfectly in top m.2 slot. I have tried the Adata NVME in both the opening slots and cant get it to pickup.

Do anybody know what setting in bios i have to change for this to pickup?

NVME does work. Bios settings is standard as it came out with, only XMP profile 1 loaded.

Thank you.

Hi, no the Main NVME did remain in, as this other one will be used as backup for games etc. I had same config in my z270 aorus gaming 5 board, and cant remember what i did there. Trying to find out if there is a bios setting i am missing or something?

Try to remove the one with the OS on and check if the other one picks up in the bios, if it does pickup then it has to be a bios setting. not sure how many pci lanes an nvme uses? do you have more than 1 gpu?

Hi, no it single 1080ti that is running. So did it on my z270 gaming 5 with same components. I am sure it is some odd bloody bios setting again. Was hoping somebody with a z370/z390 gigabyte board has had same problem and knew how to get it right.

In your manual, Page 68 will assist with the BIOS setup and Page 33 will show the following:

Ensure you are using the first 2 M.2's from the top and then ensure you are NOT using the corresponding SATA3 Connectors (1, 4 & 5)

Hi thanks for feedback will test that, if i read correctly with M.2 PCIe connect all of SATA should work, or am i reading this wrong? @Petester @valiente.

Turn on your computer and press to enter BIOS Setup during the POST (Power-On Self-Test). Go to Peripherals\SATA And RST Configuration, make sure SATA Controller(s) is enabled. To create RAID, set SATA Mode Selection to Intel RST Premium With Intel Optane System Acceleration (Figure 1). Note: When using a PCIe SSD, make sure to set the Use RST Legacy OROM item under Peripherals\SATA And RST Configuration to Disabled. Does this count when not doing RAID?

Sorry if question is stupid.

if I am looking at his board correct and the slots are ordered as per that pic, then no, shouldn't he be using the bottom 2?

No what Valiente was saying is you can't have M.2 devices sharing bandwidth with your SATA devices. So if you have one or more M.2 drives they will conflict with the relevant SATA devices sharing that bandwidth. As in the pic in your manual. So in your case probably SATA 4 and 5, possibly 1.

If you unsure unplug all your SATA drives and see if both M.2's are picked up

well he did say "make sure you use the 2 from the TOP", however wouldn't it be better to use the bottom 2?

already if just using 1 drive, if he uses the bottom then he will have all SATA still available where as if using from the TOP, he will lose ports

I wasnt saying no to your statement . Was to his ... We typed that at the same time

Just unplug your SATA devices and get both your M.2 drives to work first . They're both the same tech but you generally put the O/S drive in the top M.2 and the secondary one in the bottom one .

Ok, so do i understand correctly.

Unplug all the SATA drives.

Leave my OS NVME in M.2 port 1, and connect Adata NVME in bottom m.2 and see if that works?

Yep try that ..should work . Then we figure out SATA after that

Cool keep us posted

PS: just unplug the SATA power connectors . No need to unplug SATA cables

Remember your board has 3 x M.2 slots - So you should Populate the TOP 2 as I stated earlier (Top most for the OS and Middle one for Secondary Gaming Drive).

The bottom most M.2 shares bandwidth with actual PCI-E Slots - Which is even less desirable than just planning your SATA connectors properly...

Also another thing to note, since you are using NVME drives then you can use SATA 0-3 Ports
