Hi guys, I need help please.
Worked on PC last night as usual and switched off as I went to bed. Been off all day. Got home now and tried to switch on but nada. Nothing. Zilch.
The red light showing power on the Mobo is on, but when I press the power button there is no cpu fan coming on, no beep, nothing.
I tried reseating the power cables and ram. Unplugged the PSU for a while and back in… nothing.
How do I know whether it is the PSU or Mobo?
I also tried manually shorting the power pins on Mobo to boot but nothing.
Any advice? Anyone in the durbanville area with a spare psu that I can try?
It is a Biostar x370 GT3 AM4 mobo and a Raidmax RX-530SS PSU…

Is there anyone maybe in the area with a spare PSU that I can test and see if it is my PSU?

Manually shorting the green cable on the 24pin connector makes the PSU start up. But when plugging and trying to power up, not a hair moves. No fan, no extra lights, not a beep.. nada.

What can I do? Pretty stumped, had a gaming session planned tonight.. blegh!

sounds like PSU. Disconnect everything except a hard drive / molex fan and then short the green & blackwire. If it works with such a little load, then its stuffed, if it still doesnt turn on, its stuffed :p

And if it's stuffed it's stuffed. Moral of the story, it's stuffed either way lol.

On a serious note though, it does sound like a psu issue. Sorry to hear

Found someone that will bring me a PSU to test with later tonight. Hopefully I can get it sorted soon. gonna test all my psu pins now in the meantime

Dude please stop messing with it. It's Raidmax. It's gone. All you're doing now is creating the potential for more damage.

Okay I plugged an Antec 850W in and same. Nothing happens. 2x red lights on mobo comes on, no boot or whatever when pressing power button or shorting the pwr pins.

I removed mobo and cpu, cleaned cpu off, reseated it. Plugged just mobo in and cpu with psu and still nothing.

So I guess nothing wrong with the PSU. Mobo out of warranty, only had a 1 year warranty. CPU and mobo was bought from Wootware. I wonder if I can pop in there and have them test it while I wait and then buy a new mobo if it is the mobo...

Shucks this sucks.

And I say the Raidmax wanted a companion or 3 on the trash heap and took the mobo and who else knows what along.

1 year warranty? WTF is that shit? I'v never heard of such a short warranty. Try this - remove CPU + RAM + CMOS battery, put a jumper on the BIOS reset pin (in reset position) for 2min.

Thenput CMOS battery back in + remove BIOS jumper + insert CPU & then try power on with the Antec. If you have a diagnostic speaker on the mobo, it should screech for RAM.

So I ordered a new mobo at Wootware. They said I can come collect it this afternoon but they will try and quickly test my mobo and cpu over there to make sure it is the mobo before I take the new one.

It also turns out my motherboard does indeed have a three year warranty, so they will RMA it for me if necessary. So don't stress @souljazk it ain't 1 year :p

So, I get to wootware, they test the mobo and cpu for me and it runs 100% fine. PSU runs fine, no issues. I cancel my order, get back home, plug everything back in and voila runs as if nothing happened.

Go figure!

Time to chuck a UPS on the end of that connection. And a surge protector.
You got fed some dodgy power.

And I still blame the Raidmax!! :p

Was my thoughts too... but why it is all working now again is beyond me and I don't like not knowing.

Did you take the parts out or were they in the case? At anypoint did you manually flush the power for a solid 10seconds? I know my Asus boards cap's hold juice for a good while before being fully dscharged.

Took all the parts out. Reseated all components inc. CPU and repasting it. then also removed power and CMOS battery for 2mins minimum etc. Still checked it this morning but nothing. Then they check it and tadaaa lol

No clue. But I had the same thing with a new system. PC Place built it for me, took it home and all good, 3 days later deader than dead. Took it to PC place, all fine. Took it back home and all fine. Since that day I've had one of those red Ellies surge protectors going into the wall and my PC being fed from the UPS connected to that and never again an issue.

Its due to a bad AC to DC conversion (or bad AC in for all I know) which is done by the PSU as far as I know. Could be wrong, this is something I was told years back.

Well even after this process, I will slowly start saving up and work towards a better PSU. That said, I am not sure whether my PSU is strong enough but will start saving for something better.

Don't think its got to due with it being strong enough, but more that RAIDMAX is generally KAK. I always Google "PSU OEM" , and try find sites where they list the OEM of the unit I want to buy. Even some low-below midrange Corsair units are made by the same guys who do most of the RAIDMAX stuff AFAIR.
