HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

I believe one can get into a little hot water recommending a 650 around these parts. That said, I would agree with you on this - although there are many who prefer the 600 over the 650. Current exchange has messed things up a lot. The 6xx landed from Drop will be around R5k (not so long ago it would have been R4k). They do come up from time to time on AVF as well - around R3500.

To be honest the recommendations around AudioGd r2r11 and Sennies you have made where spot on for me.
Had the 600's and bought a set of 650's for the wife.
Liked hers more and could not persuade her to swop (she liked the color of the 650's more).
Hd600's are also good, but after hearing the 650's I preferred them, enough to sell the 600's and order my own.
Each to their own I suppose as its subjective, but the your recommendations to date (for me) have been great.

I Also ended up buying a couple of in-ears , the Tin T4, P1 and a 1more triple I bought on impulse from a takealot sale.
End up using the 1more (cheapest of the bunch) the most, as it sounds the best without an amp so its with me the most.
T4's also great but the P1 really needs power to make it sound good. (Dragonfly red to the rescue)
Will eventually need to sell some of the stuff I bought because in retrospect (after writing this) I have too much :)

Scratch out that lcd2 Ive been drooling over on AudioHead | Online High-end Headphone Store in South Africa for the last 6 months.

Hey, might be interested in the Tin P1 if you decide to sell.

Thanks dude. I remember your joy! (it very much reminded me of how I felt when I first heard that combo). We all navigate our path as best we can, and learn from past experiences, good or bad (hopefully). The reason why I passionately recommend that synergy (650 and R2R11), especially for rock and EDM, is because it was my gateway drug - but it was also the gateway drug for some BIG audio enthusiasts I know. There is some magic in the synergy that the 650 and R2R11 share. It's a superb choice for someone passionate about music and wondering what wonders there are to be experienced. There are many other (and similar) gateway drugs - but I don't really know them. Acid did make a valid comment though, that budget must come into play. It's not easy to lay out R8-R10k for a starter kit like that (especially in these times).

I was running the sound magic E11c's for over a year until they magically disappeared at ukzn as my in-ear monitors and for the price they are amazing and I recommend them to anyway as pair you wouldn't mind losing. They perform WAY above their price level and with a SA distributor now they're about R900. Now after that prelude, The 1 More tripple's are in a completely different class. They're now my Daily's too.

I was fortunate enough to listen to the Tin P1 on Friday - a friend brought it round. Beautiful mid-range! It sounded well balanced overall and was a really engaging listen (based on the few songs I listened to).

Dude those E11's are mini power houses for dirt cheap money (for what you get)! I still have my pair that I bought years ago. Have never been able to get myself to sell them. Although I've moved to wireless IEM's for now (WF-1000), but only because they suit my needs better for the moment.

They won several what hifi awards for a reason. I really hope mine weren't stolen, unlikely, I haven't seen frequency charts of them I loved the sound stage. I just checked now and the non-c version is R760! poor ignorant people with their airpods.

So after many months of toying with the idea of getting new headphones, and trying to decide if I want a gaming headset or HiFi headphones plus an external mic, and how expensive to go, and whether I need a fancy mic with an audio interface or a cheapy USB mic, and generally getting myself all tied up in knots of confusion - I just did the only logical thing possible given the circumstances:

I bought an E10K

And now I definitely need better headphones because this little thing really deserves it.

Congrats!! Bold is the man who peeks into the rabbit hole...

Anyone know if the Schiit Fulla 3 will be sold in SA? Their site doesn't have SA listed as s shipping destination.

And the Fulla 3 will be better than E10k, right? Thinking about Dac/Amp combo in R2000 range, and the Mic input on the Fulla just makes life and cable management easier.

(Game One, 50 Ohm Impedance)

for your pricerange - rather keep a lookout for a preowned Nuprime uDSD - i reckon that should work better than both the Fulla and the E10k .... just my own opinion .... others may differ

look i have an M11 - the sound quality that you will get from this is still way better than any phone with a BTR5 - it (meaning the phone + Dac/Amp) might be louder if you use a really efficient DAC/AMP like a ifi micro uDSD black label but that will set you back more than what an M11 costs you .... and note i said louder but it wont sound better even bypassing the android layer since it is the phone that is the limiting factor here

the M11 is a pretty decent DAP and now with the updates to its android O/S which allows for the App store usage it now allows you to use UAPP and Neutron or any other software you had on your phone (paid software can be used on any other google based device where you log into the same google account as your phone and you wont have to pay again)

the M11 also has a balanced headphones output with both 2,5mm balanced or 4.4mm pentaconn output sockets - this produces more power so when you have difficult to drive headphones and have a balanced cable for these then it will give those more power than any phone - as an example with the HiFiman HE4xx with a regular 3.5mm cable on a phone i need to run it at full and it still isnt loud enough - replace the balanced cable and i can use it with the 2.5mm balanced output on the DAP at the volume at 100 out of 120 and its loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage if you go any louder - with my IEMs on the phone i can run them at full and they are fairly loud - to get the same volume on the M11 i play at 50 out the 120 and still get less distortion - more clarity and more space and openness and all the audiophile terms that you want to drag around

to me the M11 is worth every cent you pay for it - i had a BTR3 and while the BTR5 is better than the BTR3 one of those with a phone will still be behind in the sound quality (moreso if you have good headphones) because as mentioned above it will be the phone that is the limiting factor .... bluetooth is only for those circumstances where you have to have it unwired but a good bluetooth headphones is likely to cost as much as a decent entry level audiophile grade headphones or IEM anyway - and even using LHDC and LDAC codecs doesnt match wired (believe me i did the comparisons)

Fiio M11 with IEMs - this is how i listen to it most of the time

M11-with-IEMs.jpg

Fiio M11 with very inefficient HE4xx with a balanced cable - its good enough and is close to being a desktop replacement

Screenshot of UAPP (USB Audio Player Pro) on the M11 - best software for music playback on any Android device IMHO

maybe i'm biased because i got mine for R7k second hand but that included a Hikvision 256gig microSD card which is fairly big and would normally add R500 to the cost ...... you can use 2 microSD cards in the M11 and its compatible with up to 2TB cards which don't even exist yet

its not the best DAP by any means but it is the best DAP that you can buy new at this price (you might get second hand bargains of other brands but discounting that and going "new for new" this is it at this specific price level IMHO ..... you won't find anything better) and my experience with the M11 is now making me rethink the whole desktop thing too ie i am more in the mind of now aiming for a top level DAP that works as well as a desktop DAC .... something along the lines of a Fiio M15 or Lotoo PAW6000 and one of the crazy priced high end IEMs and that should do for me even as a complete desktop replacement (will cost around R50k in total though for DAP and IEMs together so thats more long term)

Finally got one for myself (happy birthday me), tested with hd6xx and FH7 so far and liking it :)
Using Tidal through Uapp.

congrats - there are now plenty other DAPs in this pricerange but for the mix of full android features and decent sound quality plus being able to use the UAPP EQ to improve the sound quality the M11 is great especially if you got it at a good price pre-owned .... hope it serves you well and that you have great fun using it (y)

What did you get, the M11?
Yeah, got the M11 from Amazon.
Had one in my cart locally but when I looked again price had jumped to 12k.

Damn, I see a lot of reviews saying 90% of people will be happy with a Topping D10 DAC , with a JDS Atom AMP...

Wife, can I please buy these things for a 15% improvement in audio quality? :D

I usually ask for forgiveness when I know that asking for permission will come back negative. Married 10+ years but only implemented this strategy about 5 years ago. Just pick your battles with wifey wisely :)

@Ninja_Theory Married 5 years, recently began doing the same. It's been OK so far, but I try to get her nice things too when I spurge. His and hers Sennheiser Game One's (Well, PC 373d for her, but same thing, really).

D10 + Atom might be a little expensive new, though, I will watch this forum like a Hawk.

Nice dude. Yep must be a two way street. My wife loves doing stuff to the house, like redoing the rooms and things like that. So we each just let each other do our thing (within reason).

About 8.5k. also had 2x wyze security cams in the order that cost 900 without shipping. Total was 9800

that's a great price given that its gone up to R11990 locally (y)- you got a good deal there

Hi All, anyone suggest a good set of headphones for PS4...?

I was looking at the turtle beach stealth 600s.. currently have the recon 50p .
