HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

Yup, both the original Cloud and the MH751 are rebranded Takstars. Which is why I think getting the MH751 would be more than enough for me.

But man... that separate headphone/mic combo call is strong :ROFLMAO:
Here is what I mean. Soap, acetic acid, alcohol - nothing works to get it off. You have to scrape it with something or use a scouring sponge, which gets the gunk off, but also takes off the soft coating and scratches the underlying plastic. And I'm not a dirty person, I don't smoke or eat or anything near my PC.
Well I just bought the MH751 and they are superb. I'm not an audiophile either and well these headphones seem well balanced although for me a bit more emphasis on high end (so I see why every review sort of recommends a bit of an EQ to raise the low end). However sound is enough,
The mic is clear and works well enough, I use it on 100% (+22dB) windows input volume.

I bought these because reviewers also mentioned they sound even better when paired with a headphone amp.
So now I can always get the Beyer UM2 and a decent condenser mic and I will have a great setup!

I think the only downfall for me on the MH751 is that they are closed back and already in winter they feel slightly warm around the ears. So summer will be a little uncomfortable.

Also, I don't like white for the simple fact that it will show dirt eventually.

Oh nice, I remember we were discussing it in your thread the other day! I'm glad you got them and that you're chuffed.

Yeah getting a separate mic seems to be the ultimate option. If you're getting an audio interface anyway then a dynamic mic might possibly be better than a condenser to reduce background noise, based on what I've seen on the interwebs. But I have no personal experience with this so I'd be curious to see what people think.

EDIT reply to your edit: yup, never buying a white peripheral again! Learned my lesson...

I need a gaming headset for my son. Is the MH751 the one to go for then? Seems like great value. What do you guys use for surround? Or do you play in stereo and use the game's audio engine? On my PC I bought DTS on WIndows 10, the big package for R400. It's brilliant. Will I need to splash out on that for my son if I buy the MH751 for him?

As far as I know the MH752 is the 7.1 version of the MH751. The MH751 is stereo only.

I have never been interested in virtual surround on headphones though, seems pretty gimmicky to me? Or am I being old-fashioned?

I game on my A50 in stereo. I use a custom EQ I found on Reddit. It's great. The Windows DTS app I bought is also great. So I guess I must AB some time.

Could you link the EQ? I’d like to try it on my HE400is. Would be interesting to hear back from that comparison.

Will look properly later and find the actual EQ settings - I think it's this thread. The guy's name is ZaliaS. I'll also check later which profiles I'm using. But... these are specifically for the A50, so unlikely to "fit" the HE400is.

From the Reddit page:

The ZaliaS Guy Professional Settings Presets:

Arcturus [22/MAR/19]
All around gaming preset. Excellent for Music and Movies. Amazing for competitive stereo gaming (footsteps, ambient ques, character shouts, etc). Designed for Dolby OFF, but can still be used just fine with it (user preference). Why specifically designed for stereo? Because majority of sound design in games are created with their own sound mix, which is tuned specially for the supported sound sources (HI-Fi, Headphones, Stereo, etc). Because of this specific tuning developers use, some game audio quality can actually be reduced when paired with virtualized surround sound (i.e. Dolby, DTS, THX). This preset allows you to enjoy all of your audio content at the best quality possible, just as the developers intended!

PureAudio [11/MAY/18]
Universal for music, movies and games for those that enjoy bass.

Incendiary [11/MAY/18]
Similar to PureAudio, but more balanced all-around. Great for cinematic/non-competitive gaming.

Dystrilation [11/MAY/18]
Focus on clear audio with little bass. Attention to detail in mids and highs, for audio enthusiasts. Designed for Dolby OFF

OmniVox [11/MAY/18]
This is the your universal "sound-whore" or "footstep" preset.

Tournament I, Tournament II, Tournament III [22/MAR/19]
Focus on precise sound space clarity in competitive games. Why two different sets? Because not every games' sound design is recorded and formatted in the same frequency range, so this gives you options to pick which preset better suits the game you are playing (i.e. R6 Siege vs PUBG, or BLOPS 4 vs Apex Legends). Support for a wide range of games. Designed for Dolby ON.

I had the same shit in my bmw, soft-touch coming off the door handles. I used a cotton pad (the type waman use to remove makeup), with some acetone and wiped the area and immediately followed up with a paper towel to remove the acetone. Took a few minutes but the acetone eventually dissolved the mess, leaving a nice dull plastic surface.

Which I then sanded and spray painted. :D

EDIT: Be sure to remove the Acetone as quickly as possible, as it will dissolve the actual plastic as well. Leave it on for as long as you dare and wipe off. I do multiple passes with wiping on, then immediately off, then on and immediately off. That's feels the safest and most controlled for me.

But guys, if you want to boost footsteps in online games then just mess around boosting frequencies between 2k and 6k, and possibly consider dropping frequencies below 200hz a touch.

Dang dude this actually sounds really helpful. Will give it a try. I have the same stuff on my mouse and I just gril each time I touch it. That is why I try to avoid it in each new thing I buy.

It's a horrible method of making cheap plastics feel premium. I hate it. I've had the same on a Corsair mouse. It underwent the same Acetone wipe treatment.

I want to reiterate, do not leave it on the plastic. It will dissolve your headphone and mouse. Wipe on, leave 2 seconds, wipe off. Inspect. Wipe on, leave 2 seconds, wipe off. Inspect. Repeat until happy. Then wipe a few times with a damp paper towel to remove the remaining acetone. Wipe and wipe again. Sorry for hammering this, but I don't want to rip someones kit.

Yup it's a Corsair. If I melt this mouse, I won't miss it too much. I've been wanting to upgrade for a while. Plus it was a gift from an ex :ROFLMAO: but I'll be careful with the headphones. They still serve me well. Thanks again for the thorough advice!

Hi guys, I can't find the MH752 anywhere locally. Any ideas? Or which other headsets around the R1k mark are highly recommended?

Thanks Deviation. I've had the Gold before, so has my son. Sadly they didn't go down too well. For me, the cups are too small and hurt my ears after about an hour of use. Then, at risk of sounding like a pretentious twat, I struggled with the SQ as well. For my son, the mic was too open, as we all game in the same room on side-by-side gaming stations. So I was kinda forced to sell both our Gold's back then.

Ah. Cups size is the same with the V2.
But sound quality got a bump. That's why i recommend them now. V1 was absolute trash.

Oh.. nice. I didn't know there was a V2. Damn, if the mic wasn't integrated in the cup, it could have worked for my son. I'll do some reading up anyway.. that MH752 looks perfect though, I must say.. but the wireless on the Gold is pretty convenient as well.

For me, all gaming headphones sounded meh.
Tried the GSP600, Arctis Pro, Asus ROG, Razer Krakens.
As long as they provide good positioning, I am fine with it.

I can understand this. Although for me personally I find the A50 to be a cut above the rest. Big bass and decent SQ for gaming. Just my 0.02 and my experience after trying a few headsets. Similar to you actually. I've had the A50 gen 2 and 3, Steelseries 5, 7 and Arctis Pro. Sennhesier PC350SE, Razer Kraken, Sony Gold and Platinum, and one or two others. The A50 is just the king of the mountain for me. Considering to sell my A50 gen 3 to buy a gen 4. But that price is pretty ridiculous, and... my marriage. I'll keep plotting. My wife seems to have finally accepted that I live in a state of permanent plotting.
